From our cottage in Varmahlíð, a loop in the central region of
Skagafjörður.

Sunny, 50f, increasing wind from the north.

First 4k were on the ring road, 1, with a fair bit of traffic. The ring road is the major 'highway' around the island. Picture a Narrow 2 lane highway in the ozarks. Then onto road 753, pancake flat gravel for about 10k, and then back to the cabin on 752 and a short bit on 1 again.

The last 10k had several climbs and were straight into a constant 20mph blow. Butt kicker.

12 PM

Note

A chill-day. Soaked in the hot pot after the run.

Toured the turf house museum in Glaumbær, a place inhabited since the 10th century.

Drove to Sauđárkrókur for a look around. Then back to Varmahlíð to see the Viđimyrikirka.

Sitting in the sun at the cottage enjoying the sun and view.

Easy run into Lauger and then back on the farm road. Some sort of fish processing plant in Lauger. Quite a smell. Worse than the hydrogen sulfide from the thermal vents.

More whimbrels and a lot of geese (snow geese?). No psychos this time. Lots of horses in the field behind us, 3 or 400.

Seyðisfjörður
A wide variety on this run including: asphalt, trail, gravel, rock climbing, waterfalls, marshes, sheep, fjords, and psychotic birds.

Arctic terns can be very aggressive.

The town of Seyðisfjörður would be a nice place to live IF you don't mind being isolated and living in a place that could kill you in a number of different ways... earthquake, volcano, rock slides, avalanches.

Crampons are tough on the feet.

Same run as yesterday.

A whimbrel followedģcircled me for about 3 miles. I don't know if it was unhappy or just keeping me company, but the constant calling was a bit annoying.

Walking 2:00:00 [1] 5.0 mi (24:00 / mi) +200m 21:21 / mi

Day started with a hike up to the oldest pool in Iceland. Seljavallalaug. https://guidetoiceland.is/connect-with-locals/joru...

There is another pool a little further (150m?) up the stream where another hot spring meets the river. Just rocks piled to keep tje hot water in. Black sand bottom. This is the one to soak in.

We got there early so not many people yet.

Next to Skogafoss. Another massive waterfall. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sk%C3%B3gafoss
Lots of tourists but worth the visit.

Then to the glacier, Myrdalsjokull.

Black sand beach near Vik. Sun came out which was nice. Not much wave action which was surprising.
