| Running - Off road 50:00 [3] | ||
| Around the buetiful lake here at Tata. Struggling big time. Feet and things sore from lugging around the big back pack. This place is so sweet. Gonna be a great summer holiday week. Racing in the mornings, buet weather and lake in the afternoon, cheap beer, "Disco everynight from 11 to 1.3O", and there is even wimbeldon and porn on the tv! | ||
Sunday Jun 29 | ||
| Running - Road intervals 12:00 [5] | ||
| Found a sweet athletics track lane around an Island park in the center of budapest 5km long. Did 500 on, 500 off, 850 on, 1km on, 500,500. Feeling sweet as considering I was completly knackered after a hard core day touristing and it was 32 degrees which normally ruins me.
Walked around town, went the the circus, the park , the musuem, and the island. Budapest.

| Orienteering race 56:00 [4] | ||
| The results might not show it but I'm pretty happy with the progress made today. The run was littered with stupid errors but the important thing was that I was back in race mode and dealing with the terrain...when I was concentrating properly on looking around etc. When I was just concentrating on running away from the old british coach then I got to practise my relocation. The other brits came flying past at one point too, and I latch on to them for a while only to get all excited when they missed the control and I got it and took off. Unfortunatly I stuffed the next one trying to sneak away. Was great to see everyone including good fins, brits, russians and hungarians making tons of errors. They confirmed it wasn't just me with a shock to how physical the undergrowth is and how hhit and miss the low vis controls are if you aren't careful. Sweet that all just means WOC won't be a running benefit and there is a good chance of qualifying if you have a good run. | ||

| Orienteering race 2:05:00 [4] | ||
| First two hoürs of the swedish Long trials. Was a bit flustered at the start when I arrived late and had to go straight away and then I didnt find the start triangle before entering the forest. Anyway started to get the grips of the terrain, feeling ok considering but starting to get tired at the end so wasn§t learning much, still had thirty plus minutes to go so made like a brit and headed home, ready to smash tommorrow. Emil did 1, 47 but there were plenty of swedes over two hours. Smashed my right knee on a rock.

| Run around the National park. Sweet. | ||
| Note | ||
| What the hell just happened to my 3 page essay about yesterday. damned if I'm writing that again so here are some key words.
Tourist day, drive long, vilage after village, mountains, chairlift, Germany, bobsliegh, run, http://www.czecot.com/en/results/turobjekty-info.p... , awesomist, rain, drive back, mission, flood, debre, trees, road, trees on road, firebrigade, crash, no, almost, ok so a little, just the wing mirror, 200km 4.5 hours! Just been looking at the photos of the rocks and I reckon they are the lamest ones they could choose. This place is soo soo much better than that. If your ever around here you have to take a look.

| Orienteering race 49:00 [4] | ||
| http://www.woc2008.cz/en/homepage/news/#For_teams
special link to appear soon....apparently News Flash, turns out the results are on the czech national team website. I§ll let you know where that is when I find it. but for now here are some maps provided by Matts Troeng of sweden. http://www.matstroeng.se/maps/index.php Unbeliebable I know. but I didn§t win the first race of the swedish trials. I didn§t even come close. It may have something to do with not really understanding the vegetation mapping, it may have something to do with being close to the controls but not finding until Id had a good walk around. It also maybe to do with just not trusting the map with regards to the obvious stumps in front of me losing about five min on a short leg. it might also be cos it was pretty tough running and those damn swedishes were probably very much at home bounding over the blueberries. Anyway I quite enjoyed it, felt ok and dont think it would be hard to get good in this terrain..it isnt difficult Final this afternoon. Also some friends arrived today so i have someone to talk to. Patrick Karlson who I met in Luthuania JWOC and Matius Mullienger who come to NZ in 2005. Mattius won which is good.
| Orienteering race 1:00:00 [4] | ||
| Final.
This was longer and greener than this morning. Screwed no one again. No confidence. Anyway was getting it on allright racing this russian and then the bloody organisers took the last three controls and finish away. Really pissed me off.
Monday Jun 23 | ||
| Orienteering 35:00 [1] | ||
| Map walk around model. Not a great mapping effort for Czech I hope. Still very confused by the vegetation and the rocks can be big or they can be unnoticeable under moss. Still quite nice running. | ||
| Running - Off road 30:00 [3] | ||
| Did a bit of a track run after the map walk, just to do some decent running without straining through the forest and getting lost. Did about ten accellerations and felt awesome.
Cant wait to kick some swedishes arse tommorrow.

| Got there real early so went for a jog to clear out all the deep vains and thrombosises. Felt a bit rough but thats what your gonna get isn't it.
Then I had to sprint for the start as I discovered at the last minute that I had a completely different start that was about 2.5 km down the road.

Was impressed with the boys. Its a real shame Greg and I haven't had more time with the JWOC team discussing Swedish maps though. There gonna get a surprise. Pleasantly tired at the end. Refreshing to do the session during the day.

| 8 times 90 sec gradual up hill. 2 min recovery. Turkey crossing up to the curl in the curly road paddock road. Supposed to be focussing on form and leg lift. Legs were concrete still from the weekend so had to draw on all forms of willpower to get this session done. | ||

A bit of fartlek really. We were out for two hours and the computer only registered an hour and half so must of been a bit of stuffing around. Feeling alright.
Tuesday Jun 3 | ||
| Running - Road 25:00 [3] | ||
| Just to see if I can run. I can.
No real sore muscles (like the hammy or solous like last week), Just hips and a thighs are a little beat up from trying to protect the hips. Track building again today which agrevates the hips aswell.

| Orienteering race 1:16:00 [5] | ||
| QB day 3, Bombing range. Carsten 73. thom 76 me, Aaron Darren (Those that weren't hungover seemed to feature a lot higher today although aaron still did alright).
Surprisingly running/feeling a hell of a lot better than yesterday. Even seemed to finish as strong as I started. Obviously still pretty crap but gives me some hope again. Navigation pretty damn sloppy. Lots of time lost but was fun trying to hold Carsten off. He caught me three to go and I tried to hang on to finish...what a change of pace... Think I need more time running through terrain reading a map. Reading the map clearly whilst running hard is probably the skill I miss most when out of practise. That leads to sloppy orientering as I try to run hard into the cirlce without reading any detail or having a plan.
| C • Sloppy Orienteering 2 | ||
Sunday Jun 1 | ||
| Orienteering 1:34:00 [4] | ||
| QB Day 2, Osgiliath.
Huge error at no.8 screwed it up from 3 different directions. Low vis, poor compass work. Then all of a sudden I felt how tired I was and really really struggled phyiscally from then on, with the sloppy orienteering that results from going too slow...not to fast. Not really much fun but the kind of harden up training I need at the moment. Thankfully the course was invalidated and the splits didn't work so I can't be embarressed too much. Carsten in the low 70's.
