Orienteering (Google Map) 1:11:20 [3]** 6 km (11:53 / km)
ahr:145 max:166 spiked:3/4c rhr:57 slept:7.0 weight:78.5kg (sick) shoes: Adidas Trail Response
Really boomed the first one-using a google map didn't really give me enough info on my location. I was looking for an open area with a distinct end of heavy trees along a road, but such a thing didn't exist. Second control was easier to identify-and due to not finding the first one-I ran a parallel course and was about 200 meters north- time started to be a factor so I replotted my course and headed back when I arrived at another easily identifiable intersection- a real map would have helped. Discovered a lot about forest navigation and running or lack thereof...

Trail Run (strides) 42:28 [3]* 7.5 km (5:40 / km)
ahr:143 max:162 rhr:55 slept:6.0 weight:79kg (injured) (sick) shoes: New Balance 872 Trail
6x20'' strides. Easy stretching out strides. Feels nice to really move.

Cold symptoms are moderate, but had an attack of gout yesterday evening. Probably didn't drink enough yesterday and the day before. I noticed a twinge on my run. Better after taking gout medication but a day off it should help.

Tuesday Mar 13

Trail Run (Easy) 40:00 [3]7.5 km (5:20 / km)
ahr:145 max:165 rhr:57 slept:6.5 weight:78.8kg (sick) shoes: Adidas Trail Response
Easy run on normal course. Pleased because HR and Time are showing an improvement in fitness.

Orienteering (Line-O) 26:09 [3]** 2.3 km (11:22 / km)
ahr:135 max:168 spiked:5/5c rhr:4 slept:8.0 weight:78.8kg (sick) shoes: New Balance 872 Trail
Ran a square route through the woods. Pretty good following lines-missed second control by about 30m-third I was surprised to find a 'road' leading to it halfway through-it wasn't on the map. 4th is the toughest-brambles and inpenatrable vegetation made going sloow.
Not a bad present for my 48th birthday. Would have liked longer routes, but the forest is only so big...and navagable.

Sunday Mar 11

Orienteering (map reading) 46:02 [2]* 8 km (5:45 / km)
ahr:146 max:161 rhr:56 slept:8.0 weight:78.5kg (sick) shoes: Adidas Trail Response
Ran a new route and used a map to follow progress. I find it really helpful to practice reading the compass and adjusting the map with my location on the map. I'm a rank newbie, so every little bit helps. Quite different from my competitive running days. Probably coming down with the cold that everybody else in the family has....:-(I've been actively denying the symptoms the last couple of days)
