| Went to the control area, determine if it was properly placed, or if it was even there. Then on to the next. Lost lots of time when it wasn't there since I wasn't sure of myself. Misplaced were a bit easier, though when there were two controls in the same area, it took me awhile to read the details. Messed up big on the first one, I ran past the re-entrant because I had misjudged the scale 1:4000...and I had circled the feature wrong, so even though it was intentionally misplaced, my circle had it placed properly. Fun training and seemed valueable. Hopefully improved my map reading skills a bit.
PS. I've been watching my weight go up a kg everyday. I think there's something wrong with the scale. The only other thing it could be is I'm drinking lots of water to help flush my system due to the gout...so maybe I'm just super hydrated. | ||

| Gout is gone, but still under care. anti-inflammetories, then Colchimax for 3 months to get rid of all the gout symptoms, then allopurinol as a long term treatment.
--- It was just a quick 15' trip from INSA to La loge a Rougerais, So a little quasi-time trial appeared. I didn't get off to a wonderful start, lots of booms but only 3 major (counted in minutes lost) booms. Still much faster than the last time two times I've run it. The control I thought was missing, was actually spared by the loggers. I found it amongs a lot of debris, after using a safer route choice to find it. I took Simon's advice, and drew the route I thought I'd taken vs. the GPS trace. One leg was really off, which had also led to a big boom...so I obviously lost contact with the map through there. I'm not sure what got me off there, except possibly following the path of least resistance through some rather thick underbrush. | ||

| Gout has flared up again. Great, I could have gotten in some good training this week with the winter holidays starting...hopefully in a few more days... | ||

| another adventure. Had some good stuff and some really bad stuff. Never did figure out what a charbonièrre was, which seemed to be fairly prominent on the map. Even my wife, who is French didn't know even after looking it up in the dictionary at home. This was a fun event, Regionale #1 south of St. Briuec. My wife and kids came and did the Jalonnée course. This was their first try, and they had fun and are already talking about the next one.
My performance was poor at best. I'm sure I was last in my category, and I more or less gave up on doing really well after the big booms on #3,#6 and 11. probably a total of 50' of errors. I had trouble seeing the attackpoints for a lot of these controls. Looking at the map with QuickRoute and blowing up the map, I see some things I just didn't see out on the course. Maybe it's time for a magnifier to my compass setup. I also found a parallel trail to #19 that didn't appear on the map at all, which totally confused me when it didn't turn where I thought it should. I was quite happy with a lot though on route choices and staying in contact with the map, on the good legs. Just need to have more of those and less of the bad ones; | ||
