Armchair Orienteering (Catching Features) 30:00 [0]***
spiked:14/17c
Worked more on route choice, reading contours and planning backwards again.

Friday Apr 18

Running (Recovery) 30:12 [1]5.9 km (5:07 / km) +16m 5:03 / km
slept:7.0 weight:76.9kg shoes: Asics Trabuco IX WR
I always see people running up here, so I thought I'd check out the area. Lot's of trails and quite a flat area. Could be some good grass running in a few areas. I think there may be a sprint map available. If I'm working more in this area next year, I could do recovery runs out here pretty easily.

Thursday Apr 17

Running (FCP) 40:46 [3]8.3 km (4:55 / km)
slept:8.0 weight:76.1kg shoes: Asics Trabuco IX WR
Had a bit of a problem with my right ankle/foot for a while, but seemed to fix itself. Ham's are tight afterwards too. Hadn't gone out thinking of doing anything fast...but that's what happened. Felt pretty damn comfortable for the most part. Especially on the flat and downhills. Kept moving at a good pace. Nearly my old everyday pace. Could almost call it aerobic, except that the hills were huffing and puffing territory.
Armchair Orienteering (Catching Features) 45:00 [0]***
spiked:12/14c
Worked on some of the coaching tips. Reading the leg backwards. Planning a leg. Tried following a contour into one, but blew it big time. Way off when I finally relocated. It worked well a few legs prior. The other big one was on a long leg with few distinct features between. I tend to veer off course somewhere and end up way off.

Wednesday Apr 16

Hiking (Hiking with the kids) 5:00:00 [1]10 km (30:00 / km) +45m 29:20 / km
shoes: RBK-Walking Sport
Two long walks along the beach in Penestin with the kids the first time ~2h then ~3h in the afternoon with lots of breaks to play skip rocks and have fun. A good half of the time I probably had between 12kg and 16kg on my shoulders...depending on which kid was tired.

Biking (easy ride) 45:32 [1]11.6 km (3:56 / km) +79m 3:48 / km
slept:8.0 weight:75.9kg (injured)
Easy tour to pump a bit of blood. through my knee.

Sunday Apr 13

Orienteering race (Middle Distance) 1:27:26 [4]*** 11.2 km (7:48 / km) +78m 7:33 / km
spiked:20/24c slept:8.0 weight:73.3kg shoes: Solomon TrailComp2
Brittany Middle Distance Championship" La Martois
6.6 Km Crow Flies Course.
I wasn't sure what to expect on this today. I wasn't well prepared to leave this AM, seemed to forget things left and right...and that was before the race started. The race itself went pretty well. Biggest boom was on the 3rd control. Overran it. Relocated and found it. That was the bigg'un.
Next mistake was at #9. Stopped short.I'm not exactly sure what I was thinking. I started heading for 11. I was almost in the circle too. Next Problem was at #17. Followed a parallel feature, and ended up coming up on 18 instead. Found 17 pretty quickly after that, and went on to 18. The rest of the course was OK. I read the map pretty well, but fatigue was starting to set in. Endurance just aint there yet.

Orienteering race (Sprint) 29:22 *** 3.8 km (7:44 / km) +33m 7:24 / km
spiked:11/14c slept:8.0 weight:76.3kg (injured) shoes: Solomon TrailComp2
This was my first Sprint. I started off well, and it became a case of follow the leader. I was caught by the father and son dou from Devon shortly after the first control. Navigation was put on the backburner while I ran with them but then I noticed the pain in my knee starting up again around #7 I backed off a bit, but subsequently fell and landed on my kneecap on the same leg.. After that, I gave up trying to keep up with the group, and just jogged/walked the rest of the way in sve the last 80 meters or so, where I just had to pass a few people. I probably shouldn't have run this. I'd just finished the MD event less than an hour before. The last time my knee gave me problems was after an extended training, soI think the original knee pain isn't a twist, but fatigue induced. Falling on it however hurt a lot.
Boomed #1, 1'30". On the way to #8 is where I fell, I doubled back once, thinking that I had arrived at the proper ditch, but it wasn't. 1' lost there. #12 was a big mistake, especially for a sprint of 4'
