Orienteering race (Rogaine) 5:35:00 [5] *** 26.8 km (12:30 / km) +350m 11:44 / km
shoes: New Balance All Terrain

Capestorm Rogaine with Pat. Started off well. We planned the route at the table in the lodge for 10 minutes before setting out. We went to the north of the lodge because there was more opportunity of which controls to go to on the way back. Ran steadily for the first 2 hours before any complaints from my legs. After 3 hours we were just running downhills and by 4 hours my walking was painfull. Pat was also suffering but was keeping a better pace with me trailing behind.

We finished with 25 minutes to spare but there were no other controls in reach so it was back to the lodge to swap war stories with the others.

Running race 4:17 [5] 1.0 km (4:17 / km)
shoes: New Balance 404

Went out faster than last week and kept a more even pace throughout. Kept hearing Sarah and Alex behind me and was being pulled by Jess who was about 50m ahead. This made sure I did not slack off!

I think it puts in perspective what we are capable of. We just need distance specific training to carry it through. I guess it also depends on the mind because pushing hard for 4 minutes is different from suffering for 4 hours on a marathon!
