Orienteering race 1:34:36 [4] *** 7.0 km (13:31 / km) +245m 11:30 / km
spiked:14/18c shoes: New Balance All Terrain

Gauteng Classic event. Again had a good run with 2 medium sized mistakes and a few minor mistakes. Highlight was punching 12 just before Steph and then ducking out of the control straight away. I headed for for the road in a NE direction while she came out of the thicket and set off on the straight route E wondering where I got to. Running and walking the road I beat her by 1 minute over 1,2k. If she had run the road she would have taken 5 or 6 minutes out of my time.

First ever SA Sprint Championships
Course was very short so had to push hard all the time. Made a small mistake going to 2 and a big mistake going to 9. Felt like I was slow and took a lot of effort to keep pushing on the long legs across the fields to the finish.

Mike Hall unfortunately missed 8 so although he was 30 s faster, he was disq so I won! If he had gone to the control it would have been very close and I think I would have been second by 10s.

Orienteering race 50:50 [3] *** 3.1 km (16:24 / km) +100m 14:07 / km
spiked:11/13c shoes: New Balance All Terrain

Gauteng short course. Made a bad start by following neither path and going through the dark green in between. Rest of navigation was simple but very slow. Mike caught me just after 11 but then we both struggled to find 12.

Despite being beaten by 9 minutes by Ruedi, I came third which is about the best I could hope for.
