Fell at 4 and broke my baseplate compass. Then focused very well on navigation with the map fitting perfectly to the terrain. Went around the hill to save climb, but that was a bad idea. Extra 150m to avoid 10m of climb with very little climb on the course would have been better to go straight.

Otherwise navigation perfect to 13 then total brain fade. Got my exit angle wrong went the wrong way along a path next to fence crossed fence and stream I should not have plus another 3 fences before eventually finding myself.

All others except Gavin and Piers had bad runs and Pier's emit failed with no backup so Gavin won. Just beat Brian by 15 seconds for 2nd.

Very hot but almost everyone suffered. Started cautiously but well. #4 I was on line then was distracted by some boulders to the right. #5 was a huge mess. I got into an open area and could not quite fit the features to the map. Should have used the gully to get to some rocks and use them as the attackpoint.

#6 was a long leg and a slog in the heat. Found the others OK with a few seconds lost here and there.

Although I lost about four minutes, I knew that there was potential for others to make similar mistakes. So got 2nd just ahead of Roger.
