La Femme, Kat, Skyler and I hiked up the wolf trail. It was an extremely cold night but it kept you moving. There was enough light from the stars to hike without headlamps which is always fun. A quick stop at the lookout until our eyes started to water and our face threatened to fall off.

Ski-orienteering out at Nakertok. Such a nice day to blast through some trails. They gave you the choice of classic or skate. With only 60% of trails being suitable for skating I decided on classic so that I could take fun short cuts through the bush and across the lakes. Didn't take my compass out once but it was nice to look at a map again.

Tried out my new gaiters and seal skinz socks. Feet got a little slimy but hopefully it's better than being soaked for 8 hours.

The most beautiful snow shoe I have ever been on. The sun was shinning and making the snow look like a field of diamonds. It had been cold for a couple days here which created a nice crust so I could run where ever I wanted. There was about 5cm of fresh snow on top of the crust and still hanging off the tree branches and grass. I did run semi holding my breath so I wouldn't punch through.

A friend invited me to a skate ski coaching clinic. I learned the latest techniques, which of course were very different that the techniques I have been practicing all year. At the end of the clinic there was a twist. He video taped us climbing a hill doing offset (which I just learned 1 month ago and now they were telling me to do all different). I was not keen on this AT ALL!!!! Then after the lesson we all gathered around a large TV and critiqued everyone's technique. We ran through it twice and the second time in slow-mo and even paused at various key moments. It was painful to see myself up there flailing about.

Deep wet snow out behind the airport with Skyler. 'Ran' the majority of the time to try and get ready for racing with Slice in a couple weeks. Not sure I was moving much faster than if I was just walking...

La Femme and I were fans extraordinaire for the Keski. Mr Mo and Killer Kailey both did the 53km classic. Not too many people out watching so we did our best to cheer heartily for every skier. They both did great.

| Day 2 of the CSM was a completely different animal. It was a much more difficult course and a few kilometers longer. There was a ton of snow making the ski conditions a little slow but it seems wrong to complain about too much snow. It did bank the corners of the down hills so that it turned into more of a luge run. I ran the first section on my skis as my grip tape was holding as much snow as it could. It was too complicated to try and fix in the dark without a headlamp (not to mention the hordes of skiers breathing down my neck). Once the sun came out the snow released from my skis and I could glide once again! Good thing too cuz I had worked up a full body sweet from my run.
La Femme and I met up at the first check point and slowly worked our way through the next two sections. I had a little chat with La Femme letting her know that if we wanted to make the 3:15 cutoff we were going to need to drastically increase our speed. Since she was carrying a much heavier pack than me I didn't know if this was going to be pausible but she dug deep and put into that 5th gear that she magically finds when it counts. We passed people left and right. I was constantly calculating and recalculating our split times and I knew it was going to be super close. I skied ahead to our second last checkpoint to get some honey water and soup out for La Femme. She quickly downed her food and continued on without even taking her skis off. I forged to the cutoff on my own and eagerly awaited La Femme. She made it just in the nick of time.
The last section was extremely fun since we knew it didn't matter how long it took and we finally got to get in our chat time. The sun even came out for a bit, that is before it set... The rest of the bobkittens meet us at the finish which was a big surprise and capped off a perfect weekend. It was an awesome experience and I'm in for doing gold next year for sure. Bring it!

Day 1 of the CSM. La Femme and I hammered for the first three beautiful sections. We then had the luxury of cruising for the last two knowing we would have no trouble making the cutoff time. We also thought it would be a good idea to conserve our energy for the beast that is day 2. I gave La Femme a big hug before she continued on her way to Gold Camp to the well trained arms of Lawrence. We started at 5:50am and I finished around 4:30 or 5.

Today was a perfect skate ski. Nice and easy pace (which is difficult for La Femme and I) to work on technique and I think we were still moving fairly fast. I felt way more efficient at least.

Most frustrating ski I've ever done. I tried out my new skis that I bought for the CSM but the camber was too soft with my 15lb backpack. I dumped a couple cans of beans on the side of the trail but I was still bottoming out. It didn't help that we had all kinds of fresh snow and a lot of the trails had not been groomed. Plus I was working like crazy to keep up with Mr Mo. The skis are going back, which means I need to use my good skis for CSM.
