Thursday Nov 29

Hockey (coaching) 1:00:00 [1]

Wednesday Nov 28

XC Skiing (classic) 2:10:00 [2]
Super relaxed ski around the loop. La Femme and I decided that we need to chat less and hammer more. We'll see how that plan goes... Snow was great for the most part except for the doldrums.

Tuesday Nov 27

XC Skiing (skate) 12:00 [5]
12 x 1min intervals. The first three were double poling and I totally kicked La Femme's ass. Then we switched to regular skate technique for the last 9 and I was left in her dust. Skiing behind her ended up being awesome for me. I found it was similar to those video games where you see the expert cool motorcyclist ahead of you and you just try to emulate what they have going on. Basically I have only one skate ski technique, which is totally inadequate for the super fast pace we are trying to achieve.
XC Skiing (skate) 1:08:00 [1]
Super long warm-up, cool-down and 1min interval breaks.

Monday Nov 26

Running (trail) 45:00 [3]
I think that might have been the last run in the local forest until spring. They close the park off to dogs in the winter to preserve the tracks for the skiers. That only leaves us with the airport for fun off leash runs, which sucks cuz we need to drive to get there.

Sunday Nov 25

XC Skiing (skate) 2:10:00 [3]
La Femme and I attempted to ski with a group today but we got dropped before our skies were even on. Oh well, we had a fun time on our own. I can't believe the snow is so good at this time of year. Think cold thoughts.

Saturday Nov 24

XC Skiing (classic) 2:00:00 [3]
Our first real ski training session with the club. We were instructed to stay in zone 1 but I was just having too much fun. So instead of doing what I was told I pushed hard and gave myself huge blisters on both my heals and my muscles are aching. I still think zone 1 sucks though.
Hockey 1:00:00 [4]
I think this was my best hockey game ever!!! I deaked players left and right, stayed hard on the puck, passed like Spezza and skated as fast as Vermette. I think I was still pumped up from the ski in the gats.

Friday Nov 23

XC Skiing (classic) 30:00 [2]
Farting around in the back 40 with the dog. First time out on the skis and it felt pretty good. Hard to tell though when you're breaking trail. From all the tracks in the field it looks like our pack of coyotes is back again this winter. I can't wait for the howling to start...

Wednesday Nov 21

Running (road) 40:00 [1]
Slow run over to a friends house.

Tuesday Nov 20

Hockey (coaching) 1:00:00 [2]
Put the full equipment on for this practice but I didn't need it as we were doing fancy stickwork drills. As I was way out of my league I skated around shagging pucks and jumping in every couple cycles to make the girls feel better.
XC Skiing (bounding) 12:00 [4]
6x2min intervals up the fortune access road. Nice and hilly!!!
XC Skiing (bounding) 40:00 [2]
Warming up and cooling down the muscles for the hard core stuff and between interval recovery. Most of the group was out on the man-made snow but La Femme and I did not bring our skis. We'll be hitting the snow this weekend though. So exciting!

Sunday Nov 18

Orienteering 2:05:00 [3]
Last orienteering meet before the snow hits. Decided on the challenging long advanced course as it was a beautiful day to go for an adventurous run in the woods. A bunch of small mistakes but nothing ubber major so I feel pretty good. And I took my little brother down! Yes!!!!
Hockey 1:00:00 [3]
Exciting 0-0 game. Just like my good old soccer days.

Wednesday Nov 14

XC Skiing (bounding) 45:00 [2]
Warmup.
XC Skiing (bounding) 45:00 [4]
Pushed super hard on today's intervals. My competitive nature wants to keep up with the cheaters who run up the hill instead of bound (which is slower but harder). I tried not to give into the impulse just to sprint ahead but the good angel on my shoulder told me that the whole point of doing these exercises is to simulate x-country skiing and when the snow finally falls I should be set and victory will finally be mine. Moohhaaahaaa!!!

Strength 30:00 [2]
Core stuff.

Tuesday Nov 13

Hockey 1:30:00 [4]
Joined in for todays practice. We scrimaged for most of the time and I didn't kill myself. Then a couple fun drills. The Russian circle is my fav. If only I could raise the puck on a regular basis... It's so fun playing with my students.

Sunday Nov 11

Orienteering 1:30:00 [4]
Ran around to as many controls as I could before the meet to wake up the SI units and make sure that nothing disappeared overnight.
Orienteering 1:30:00 [1]
Shadowed a friend on the short intermediate course. She did great for her first time out. There were huge numbers of deer out in the forest. One approached us from behind and scared to crap out of us. We just assumed it was another team but instead we were face to face with a huge deer probably wanting to snack on my half eaten luna bar still in my pack from the rogaine. A grad total of 134 orienteerers made it out which I think is awesome, especially since Raid the Hammer took a bunch of people out of town.

Orienteering 1:30:00 [3]
After the awards I took to the woods for the third time to collect controls. I volunteered for the controls that were farther away so that I could get a bit of a trail run in. Great day but I'm exhausted...

Saturday Nov 10

Orienteering 2:30:00 [2]
Helped my mom out by putting out 10 controls for Sunday's National Capital Orienteering Championships. I had enough time to play around for 40mins and explore some of the controls I hadn't been to yet. It was much easier running through the bush without the controls and a backpack full of SI units. Perfect day out.
Hockey 1:00:00 [4]
Due to some misunderstandings at home (basically my brother taking my car without asking...) I ended up not having my hockey stick for my game. Luckily some of the other players on my team brought extras but one was too short which caused me to miss the puck all the time and the other was too long so the end of the stick would get caught in my armpit. I spent most of the game cursing my brother under my breath.

Friday Nov 9

Running (road) 40:00 [4]
Mr Mo and i hit the bike trails running fast and dangerously in the dark. The cars driving down the parkway only added to our blindness. Stupid, but surprisingly fun.

Thursday Nov 8

XC Skiing (roller skiing) 1:30:00 [2]
Roller skiing on the downtown paths with La Femme. Kat joined us on her rollerblades and pushed the pace.

Wednesday Nov 7

XC Skiing (bounding) 1:20:00 [2]
I didn't get a very good workout during the bounding today mostly because my brain was stupid and I spent most of the intervals trying not to stab my foot with my pole.
Strength 30:00 [3]
My bounding sucked but I did need to work hard in the strength sections. Lots of power and core stuff. Next practice I'm going to work on breathing during my exercises.

Tuesday Nov 6

Note
First school hockey practice. 21 girls out so I didn't get to join in on the fun, except for a little skating around to keep the toes from freezing. Cuts will be made next week and then I'll be able to skate around like a mad woman trying to keep up with all the speedsters.

Sunday Nov 4

Biking 26:00 [4]
Short ride home from the airport after walking the poochy with my pops.
Running (trail) 11:00 [5]
After hammering home on the bike I decided to do a short brick and sprint the back loop as fast as I could. I came close to bailing down some of the muddy hills but managed to hold it together. I kicked Skyler's butt!!!
Hockey 1:00:00 [4]
Got put on defence again. My performance was not as great this time... We were playing a team from a higher division so I guess I have a little bit of an excuse.

Saturday Nov 3

Biking 1:40:00 [2]
Tried to be environmentally friendly by riding to x-country training but unfortunately we got a flat en route and missed the group. The ride was still awesome (once we eventually squeezed the tire back on).
XC Skiing (bounding) 1:30:00 [2]
Did our own ski bounding program but it was definitely not as intense as our planned workouts. Plus you look like less of a geek if you're in a large group.
