Monday Jun 30

Trecking 8:30:00 [2]
Warwick slept in so we got a late start but we still fit in plenty of hiking. Two hours before dark we had a group discussion to figure out if we should attempt another couple peaks and risk descending in the dark or return from where we came to make sure we were at least on manageable ground in the dark. The girls decided to play it safe as the last couple mountains were sketchy enough in the daylight. Warwick continued on and ended up camping on top of some mountain (which he loved). We got to our camp just before dark, ate dinner and then hit the sack (which we loved).

Trecking 10:30:00 [2]
Huge day of hiking! Legs were nice and wobbly after climbing up and over many rocky mountains. Finished in the dark like true hard core athletes. I can't remember what we did each day but we concurred the following major peaks; Marcy, Colden, Sky Light, Algonquin, Haystack, Iroquois x 2, Basin, Wright and a handfull more.

Trecking 1:20:00 [1]
Denise, Warwick, Audrey and I decided to do some good old peak bagging in the Adirondacks. By the time we got our bags packed we started our adventure in the dark. Warwick won the lightest pack award hands down, I unfortunately, was the looser with the old heavy gear. All the better the train with right?

Adventure Racing 24:00:00 [4]
Day 2 of Quest

Friday Jun 20

Adventure Racing 8:00:00 [4]
48 Hour Quest for a Cure with Leanimal, Hammer and Phatty Jr. It was a great course and there was lots of back and forth between the teams. We were heading into a bike control with Phatty's team when one of their team mates broke their fibula. He managed stick it out for the next three sections before they needed to drop down to a team of three.

We had some frustrations early on with finding our first orienteering control. No control descriptions were given, just a UTM in the forest without any obvious features we were heading towards. It took us 3 hours to locate the white piece of paper stuck to a tree with a branch in front of it that we had already passed by THREE times without seeing. Lee did a great job of regrouping and we started to work our way back to the top of the pack.

The rest of the orienteering controls went much more smoothly now that we new what we were looking for and that we needed to keep our eyes pealed at all times. Leanimal was bang on with the nav. Into the boats again for some beautiful canoe orienteering. We caught Holistic Clinic right before the end of the paddle and pulled into the lead out of the TA. The last trek section was completed perfectly, smart short cuts through watersheds and a swim across a swamp.

And then the final bike leg on the Land Rover training loop which was extremely technical. We walk the first half as we did not want to miss that itsy bitsy piece of white paper in the dark and then on the way back we rode what we could. The last 12kms to the finish was all downhill so that was a real treat to blast back into town. We pulled in just before 12am on Saturday night to a swarm of cameras and videos. A very overwhelming experience especially when I just wanted to get my bike shoes off that I?d been hike-a-biking in for the last 3 hours. It was definitely different not racing with all the ladies but Phatty and Hammer filled in nicely. I personally did not feel like I was able to contribute as much as I normally do which was hard for me. Sweet victory was ours followed by Holistic Clinic and Vert Le Raid.

Sunday Jun 15

Biking (mountain) 2:00:00 [2]
Nice technical but easy ride at stoney swamp. Doubled back over a tough section and played around with route selection. Beautiful day in the woods.

Needed to cut the ride short so I could go watch the crazy bikers whip around little Italy. JK was in the top pack for most of the race but then the skies opened and lightning came crashing down right on top of us. Most of the riders pulled out with only 15mins to go. Smart decision since the local pub directly across from where we were standing got struck by lightning and the fire trucks had to come to the rescue.

Saturday Jun 14

Running (trail) 1:15:00 [2]
Another hot and humid day out there so I took it easy and brought water with me, which I should start doing for even my short runs. Both Skyler and I needed to cool off after so we headed down to the rideau river for a dip. I was caught coming out of the water in my underwear by a lady walking her dog. Too hot to care.

Friday Jun 13

Roller Blading 1:45:00 [2]
Rolled downtown to meet up with Kat and then we zoomed up the canal. First time out and I only tried one hockey stop, which was pretty good.
Roller Blading 1:00:00 [1]
Watched 'Don't Mess with the Zohan' which pretty much hit my expectations, then back home via the bike paths. Lots of people making out on benches in the dark and groups of drunk high school kids on the way home so I took it a little slow to make sure I didn't plow into anyone.

Thursday Jun 12

Running (trail) 40:00 [2]
I've been out of commission for a bit after the 5 Peaks race on Saturday. Got severe heat stoke, brain shut down for a good 4 hours which was an extremely scary experience and needed some TLC from the hospital. There were lots of people who stopped racing to help me out so it was comforting to know that you can still count on the kindness of others even in a race.

So today I tested out the body with a nice easy run and I felt fine. Just a little rattled and even more scared of the heat.

Saturday Jun 7

Running (trail) 50:00 [5]
The disaster that was the 5 Peaks race... Not sure of the exact time as I apparently ran an extra 1.5 that I don't remember completing. I was following the lead girl and feeling OK. The first 5.5kms were uphill so I was working hard. I had completed the course the previous weekend and had been running faster so I thought my pace was good. Unfortunately I had a total body break down due to the heat. I don't remember about an hour of time but according to others I was unable to stay on the trail and was using trees to help me keep my balance. They helped me to the bottom of the mountain where there was a doctor to take care of me. I was pretty scared (and horribly embarrassed). Mostly because I couldn't remember even the simplest things (the day and month, peoples names, my phone number) and I was worried I had cooked my brain. At the hospital they checked all my organs and everything looks good. A very efficient 9hour visit...
C • Glad you're OK 4

Thursday Jun 5

Biking (trail) 2:00:00 [3]
Tackled the fortune trails for the first time and I did OK. Lots of yelps and ahhhhhs. Then we headed up to western for a little more of the traditional hammer fest.

Tuesday Jun 3

Running (trail) 1:00:00 [4]
Not really sure on the time for this run but it was about an hour of chasing Dave McMahon on narly trails.

Sunday Jun 1

Running (trail) 1:40:00 [3]
Investigated some of the fortune biking trails that will be used for the 5 peaks race next weekend. Skyler was taking shortcuts across the switchbacks by the end. Such a cheater!
Note
Went a little to gangbusters last week with fun activities and I got REALLY behind at work. Put in 15hours on Friday and another 14 or so over the weekend. 10 days of teaching left until exams so the crunch is on.
