Tuesday Jul 31

Running (trail) 35:00 [3]
Did a very short beach run and then when I got too hot I switched to running in the lake. We got some funny looks from the beach bums as I did my slow motion running in chest deep water with a dog swimming beside me. Skyler had a grand old time.

Saturday Jul 28

Adventure Racing 4:30:00 [4]
The Connell Clan performed extremely well at the Esprit FAR race. As expected, my brother and sister were natural adventure racers and loved the experience. After the trekking section we were surprised to find out that we were fourth overall and 1st coed. This meant that the relaxing racing experience with frequent yummy snack breaks I had promised my siblings was thrown out the window as our competitive spirit (and desire for swag) was now at the forefront. With a couple teams right on our tail, we hammered through the rest of the course. The two biking sections were super fast but the paddling was a slog fest. Our inflatable kayak was like a drunk shark zigzagging its way down stream. The coed team behind us took a great overland short cut and popped out right beside us. They managed to just pull ahead of us on the final bike section. So 2nd coed for us and 5th overall. Still pretty impressive for a couple of newbies, but hard to loose by only 30 seconds.
C • Congrats! 1

Tuesday Jul 24

Note
My parents wouldn't let me go running today since that guy murdered two people down the road from our cottage and supposedly he's still in the area. Kind of scary...

Monday Jul 23

Biking (mountain) 3:00:00 [3]
Managed to pull myself away from the computer to get out on the bike. Rode to the pinery and explored some of the trails. I found all kinds of great ski trails that I had never been on before. Lots of fun.
C • Tufted Titmouse 1

Saturday Jul 21

Trecking 1:00:00 [1]
Hike into the bend to watch some beach volleyball and eat icecream.
C • Be careful! 2

Friday Jul 20

Running (beach) 1:00:00 [3]
Another super windy day at the cottage which made for a great run on the beach with Skyler as all the sunbathers were elsewhere.
Swimming 20:00 [3]

Thursday Jul 19

Running 1:15:00 [3]
Out running with my bro & Skyler in the pinery. I made him wear a pack with a full bladder to get used to the feeling. He didn't have trouble with the running but did have some good old nipple chafing. All good things to figure out before our big race.

Sunday Jul 15

Trecking 2:30:00 [1]
Slow hike with Kat and La Femme near Murphy's Point for Kat's b-day. Ultra yummy lunch and two cakes!
Swimming 20:00 [3]
Nice little poste hike swim at Murphy's Point.

Saturday Jul 14

Biking (mountain) 45:00 [3]
Out with the ladies for a mnt bike ride in the gats. Slice unfortunately cracked her wrist right at the beginning. She was determined to enjoy the ride but we eventually turned back when her wrist started turning pretty colours and she could no longer shift. At least we were all able to rock out at bluesfest. Sure miss having Leannimal and Slice in Ottawa...

Friday Jul 13

Biking (mountain) 3:00:00 [2]
Took my little bro out to the gats on my fast hilly route. He's been travelling for two years so it's been a big break from the saddle. He made it up all the hills and was smiling the whole way. He's totally ready for his first adventure race at Esprit. Who needs training?

Thursday Jul 12

Running (trail) 1:15:00 [2]
Went for an easy run after eating KD, toblerone & diet coke for lunch. Taking courses online has done wonders to my eating habits... Must go purchase some greens tonight.

Tuesday Jul 10

Running (trail) 40:00 [3]
Quick run to tire Skyler out before the strawberry social.

Monday Jul 9

Strength (Yoga) 1:30:00 [2]
Never sweat so much in my life! Rivers running down all of my limbs. Great stretching though and only a little shaky on balance poses.

Sunday Jul 8

Hockey 1:00:00 [5]
I must have eaten my wheaties today because I was on fire! Two beautiful goals (both were intentionally raised which has never happened before) and my passing was bang on. OK, some fancy pants girl did dangle me a few times but compared to my normal level of play I was da bomb.
C • Congrats 1

Saturday Jul 7

Running (trail) 1:00:00 [3]
Out at the airport again.

Friday Jul 6

Hockey 1:00:00 [5]
Great game tonight. Lots of quick play and I got my first goal in a long time.

Wednesday Jul 4

Biking (road) 4:00:00 [3]100 km (2:24 / km)
Wonderful bike ride out to Wakefield with Mochizuki for a yummy lunch. Did the park loop in en route. The rain started to fall for the last hour, which made the descent from Fortune a wee tricksy.

Tuesday Jul 3

Biking (road) 30:00 [3]
Hammering over to a friend's place for some good eatin'.

Monday Jul 2

Running (trail) 50:00 [4]
I came up with a new type of training run. I call it 'Mosquito tempo with horse fly sprint intervals'. Basically you wait until dusk, head out to your local swampy forest wearing shorts and a tank-top. My mosquito tempo pace was pretty quick as there were swarms of them out there. Then every 5-7 minutes I would do a 30 second hard sprint to loose the horse flies that were hanging out in my draft pocket. The tough part was that I couldn't allow myself any recovery time because as soon as the tempo dropped I was being eaten alive. It was actually pretty fun and I haven't run that fast in ages.

Sunday Jul 1

Running (trail) 1:00:00 [3]
Canada Day run out at the airport with Skyler.
