Monday Dec 31

Running (road) 45:00 [4]
3rd anual Chuck Norris Adventure Session for Jerks. I didn't learn from last year's mistake of running really quickly and not reading the clues carefully. Phatty Jr and I ran very quickly in circles and missed a few key controls (including the funny picture of Trish) and ended up in dead last. Overall time was just over an hour but we spent some time standing around looking for stuff.

Sunday Dec 30

XC Skiing (classic) 1:15:00 [5]
Cool race simulation with my ski group. We had teams of 5 and each person went to a different checkpoint to collect a card. At the end of the race the team with the best poker hand wins. There were also prizes for fastest overall team and best costume. We had an all chicks team (including my mom) and placed second overall. It was the first time I've ever pushed really hard skiing and it was more fun than I thought. I did feel a little out of place though blasting through the gats and breathing heavily as most people were out for a leisurely family ski.

Saturday Dec 29

XC Skiing (skate) 2:10:00 [3]
Long ski all by my lonesome. Planned on doing the loop from P8 but Burma looked too good so I got sucked in, then I figured I might as well head out to Champlain look out since I'm so close. It was around then that I realized I was completely exhausted with no water or food and far from my car. I trudged back, working hard to stay ahead of the old man towing his 8 year old kid.

Friday Dec 28

XC Skiing (classic) 2:00:00 [2]
La Femme, my sis and I did the skyline, shilly shally, ridge road loop. La Femme was sporting a backpack full of random heavy items including a waxing iron. She did amazingly well on the swirvy, snowy downhills.
Strength (trampoline) 1:10:00 [2]
Took my sis and her boyfriend to the trampoline place as part of their x-mas gift. We had a great time but Joel got a few elbow and face scrapes from his huge moves. Jill was a star of course due to her background in dance. We nailed a couple sister routines but could have used some music to bring it to the next level.

Wednesday Dec 26

Running (trail) 1:20:00 [3]
Along the bruce trail with my sis out behind my Aunt's place in Burlington. Uneven footing and super hilly but it felt great to work off a little of the turkey & treats.

Tuesday Dec 25

Running (trail) 15:00 [4]
Another quick sprint in the back before jumping in the car for 6 hours.

Monday Dec 24

Running (trail) 20:00 [3]
Quick run with my sister before opening gifts.

Saturday Dec 22

XC Skiing (classic) 3:50:00 [2]
Amazing ski with La Femme and Slice. Conditions were perfect and the forecasted rain never arrived. We completed a lovely loop out to Taylor Lake. We were lucky enough to come across an empty & unlocked yurt with the stove still going. La Femme and I, trying to train with heavy bags, decided to load up with hot chocolate and goodies. Unfortunately we brought way too much so my bag didn't get much lighter after our break. After our lunch break we swapped skies to give Slice the opportunity to use real skis. I got the duds for the second half and was dropped down every hill, even though I was tucking like a fiend.

Thursday Dec 20

Strength (trampoline) 1:00:00 [2]
Ellen, La Femme's sister & I tried out trampolining. It was surprising fun and challenging. I was not very good at the front drop and got whip lash a few times.

Wednesday Dec 19

Snowshoeing 1:20:00 [1]
Out back with Skyler.

Sunday Dec 16

Cardio 1:00:00 [3]
Got suckered into going to the gym since the snow storm has crippled the city. La Femme and I tried to go to a spin class but she had read the schedule wrong and we missed it. So the only class on was Body Attack. I was really worried it was going to be a fake boxing class but it was more the power squat variety with lots of wacky arms and of course the mandatory over-perky instructor. I felt like a dork the entire workout but it was hard.

Strength (snow shovelling) 1:30:00 [1]
Helped the girl downstairs dig out from the storm. I took a picture of my friends car completely buried is snow before we cleared it off so that I can send it to her in Africa.

Saturday Dec 15

XC Skiing (classic) 30:00 [3]
A little bit of a disaster today skiing... We decided to hit the fun trails again, and nothing says fun like Franks, so off we went bombing down the windiest and hilliest trail in the gats. As La Femme was going down the first hill her ski went into a snow bank and she took what looked like a harmless fall. When she did not get up right away I was worried that she twister a knee or something but then she holds up her ski to show me that she had snapped it right in half. Of course we were using our good skis so she is bummed. She had to walk back to the car, which luckily wasn't too far back.

Friday Dec 14

XC Skiing (classic) 1:50:00 [3]
Did the friday sprint out of school, picked up the ski gear and try to beat the traffic to Quebec. Mr Mo and I skied from Gamlin up to Pink Lake the back route and then cruised home on the parkway. Chilly ski even though I had my brand new 'firewall' tights on.

Thursday Dec 13

Running (trail) 1:10:00 [3]
Too cold for anyone else to be out on the trails down by the river so Skyler got to roam free. Half of the trail had been cleared but the rest was still covered in deep snow. Ended up running like a duck through most of it to get traction.

Tuesday Dec 11

XC Skiing (skate) 2:00:00 [3]
Huge snow fall prior and during this workout made for heavy skis and low visibility. So to make it fun and exciting we headed up Burma the 'wrong' way doing natural intervals. It was extremely hard to see the turns or get any depth perception. Normally the snow banks helped push you back on course but it was tricky. I let out a few girlish screams when I hit hidden jumps or big unexpected turns.

Sunday Dec 9

XC Skiing (skate) 2:30:00 [4]
This was advertised as a long easy ski. I should have known that anything organized by an ex-national skier was still going to be super fast for me. I almost died... I bailed on my hockey game this afternoon and will be taking a nap instead.

Saturday Dec 8

XC Skiing (classic) 3:30:00 [3]
A great mix of trails on this one. La Femme, Mr Mo and I hit the fluffy backcountry trails first. There were some spectacular bails by Mr Mo but luckily the snow was so deep that it did not hurt at all. We followed our adventures in the bush with some lovely groomed stuff to snack time at Huron. Then on the way back we flew down the rolling hills of Burma and did the home sprint back to the car and food.

Friday Dec 7

Strength 30:00 [3]

Thursday Dec 6

Running (road) 1:25:00 [3]
I'm so not used to fighting traffic that I abandoned my car 4 blocks from my friend's house because it was too torturous to idle. I quickly changed into my running gear, as I was eager to enjoy the last 30 minutes of daylight. It was extra satisfying to run past all of the cars still slowly inching their way home. I looped out to the arboretum to let Skyler have some time off leash, but she was too pooped to run off trail. We did have some fun running down the toboggan hill.

Tuesday Dec 4

XC Skiing (skate) 10:00 [5]
20 x 30sec intervals with 30 seconds rest between reps. La Femme and I had already skied for over an hour prior to starting the hard stuff. The intervals almost killed me. Unbelievable conditions though.
XC Skiing (skate) 2:00:00 [2]
Warm-up and cool-down.

Monday Dec 3

Strength 8:00 [5]
4x2min intervals. I needed to get my snow tires out of the shed in the backyard and man-o-man was it a workout. I'm not even joking. It seriously was super hard. Normally I get them out before 35cm of snow is covering the backyard and it's all fun & games as I roll them up the hill and then let them go out of control down the other side but this was a touch different. The thick blanket of deep snow was providing huge resistance and my feeble arms were twitching like crazy as I held the tire close to my chest. I was totally wasted and out of breath by the time I got to the car.

Sunday Dec 2

XC Skiing (classic) 2:10:00 [4]
tough ski with the group. grooming wasn't done on all the trails so we worked extra hard to get grip - oh lafleur where art though? not that i'm totally giving up on the new grooming company just yet but it really sucks to have so much snow and the trails are a mess. 35-55cm snow expected to fall by tomorrow night so we'll see if they can get their shit together.

Saturday Dec 1

XC Skiing (classic) 1:50:00 [3]
Did the gats loop with La Femme and Mr Mo. We stuck to our plan of pushing the pace and I was trashed by the end.
Hockey 1:00:00 [4]
great offensive game today. 3-3 tie. oh the end to end rushed were beautiful.
Running (road) 30:00 [4]
i'm house sitting right now so after a full day of exhausting fun i returned to find my poochy eager to play outside. we did a fast but short run so i could hit the shower and then the couch for a nap.
