Sunday Mar 30

Running (road) 40:00 [3]
Dragged the dog around the block. It's nice to see that even dogs get out of running shape over the winter.
C • Dogs out of shape 5

Friday Mar 28

Running (road) 1:10:00 [3]
Downtown and around manor park with La Femme.

Monday Mar 24

Snowshoeing 1:00:00 [3]
Running on the fields out back with Skyler.

Saturday Mar 22

XC Skiing (skate) 3:00:00 [2]
Probably the most fun I've ever had skate skiing. Slice, Jason, Bob and I dipped down into every lake and wetland possible and went where ever they lead us. The trails were rutted and dangerously fast.

Friday Mar 21

XC Skiing (skate) 2:00:00 [3]
Big group out for a beautiful skate ski; Slice, LaFemme, Jason, Bob, Anita & Jake. The snow was crusty which allowed us to play around in the wetlands. The conditions were perfect to ski where ever you wanted. Lungs still feeling weird...

Wednesday Mar 19

Cardio 50:00 [4]
Hit the gym with Mr Mo since the rain was a falling hard core and ruined our running plans. Did the treadmill and bike while watching survivor.

Saturday Mar 15

Hockey 30:00 [4]
Last hockey game until fall so I dragged myself out there eventhough the lungs were still feeling gross.

Friday Mar 14

Note
(sick)
I gave in to my sickness today and went to the doctor. Ends up I have stupid bronchitis. At least it explains why I've been struggling all week with my breathing and all of my activities seemed more challenging then they should be. I was starting to get a complex.

Thursday Mar 13

Downhill Skiing 2:00:00 [3]
Day 2 at Tremblant required more work to find the fresh powder, which meant that I was following James even deeper into the forest to find the hidden spots that no one else had skied. He also taught me the boxing technique to get through the bushes. Thank goodness I got a helmet for x-mas because many branches whacked my noggin. Very fun but a lot of work climbing out of little valleys and river beds to get back onto the main trails.

Wednesday Mar 12

Downhill Skiing 2:00:00 [3]
I know downhill skiing would not normally be a level 3 activity but when there is a ton of fresh powder and you're following James (who is normally out west backcountry skiing every ski season) through the glades it's super tough work. Beautiful day up at Tremblant and there were no lines what so ever. We did mogul and glade runs all day then went to bed at 8.

Tuesday Mar 11

Snowshoeing 2:00:00 [2]
Karl, Sher & I strapped on the snowshoes and headed out to the new healey cabin for lunch. I offered to carry all the gear thinking that my pregnant friend might be slow but she set a mean pace. Next time she's carrying her own damn water :) The last time I was up in the gats with these girls was in grade 5 and my mom got us totally lost on one of her x-country ski adventures. Things went much more smoothly this time.

XC Skiing (skate) 1:30:00 [4]
Dave was tapering for a race on the weekend so he took it 'easy' on us. I really struggled the entire workout and hung out at the back of the pack. I've been fighting a cold but refuse to cut out any fun activities during march break. Turns out skate skiing when sick is not very fun...

Monday Mar 10

XC Skiing (classic) 2:30:00 [2]
First time out skiing with the parents all winter. They need to go on less vacations, especially when the snow is so awesome. Looped around skyline.
Snowshoeing 1:30:00 [1]
Took a couple friends and their dog exploring in my backyard.

Sunday Mar 9

XC Skiing (classic) 45:00 [3]
Too much snow to even attempt to drive today so I strapped on the skis and went cross-country to my friends baby-shower.
C • I love it! 1

Saturday Mar 8

XC Skiing (classic) 3:00:00 [2]
Went on a backcountry ski with Maya right from her house. The huge snow storm did not stop us but it did slow us down. The first half of the storm dumped a ton of fresh powder and the trails were hilarious. It took a lot of energy to climb even the slightest hill. The snow really started to come down near the end of the ski and going down penguin with your eyes closed is not the safest thing. I quickly grabbed a couple fresh cookies from Pete after the ski and then drove slowly home to hunker down for the night.

Sunday Mar 2

XC Skiing (classic) 7:30:00 [3]
Day two of the snowgaine was a real treat. After seeing that a 'road' on the map really means that there is a road underneath 4 ft of unplowed snow we decided to switch to skis. I was especially keen on giving my body a rest from running. We were a bit slower in the bush trying to get up hills but the downhills were a blast. Such a gorgeous day to be on skis! And it was nice to feel strong again... Slice is a relative newbie to classic sking and was a star. We stuck to our planned route and hit all of the controls we were aiming for. A couple small mistakes but we were able to get back with a little time to spare. I did forget to punch a control but luckily it did not change our placement. We only left two controls out there (three if you're a stickler for rules) and came in second overall. It was a very fun weekend with the GTA crew!

Saturday Mar 1

Snowshoeing 6:00:00 [4]
Snowgaine in northern NY with lovely Slice. Our first day consisted of a mixture of road running and snowshoe running/trekking. The first 6 hours were great, especially in the woods walking through the deep snow. We chose a different route than everyone else so we needed to blaze our own path to many controls (not nearly as much as Phatty and Leanimal though). There was way more snow out there than we first expected and I think we would have been much faster on skis but we were happy with the controls we got and our strategy.
Snowshoeing 1:56:00 [5]
The last two hours of the day were challenging for me. I have not done much running since the snow has fallen and unfortunately the ski muscles did not convert over as much as I had hoped. Not to worry though as my saviour Slice was there to encourage me in our sprint to the finish and to push me up the hills when needed.
