| Ottawa Orienteering Club 8 Hour Rogaine with Mr Mo. After a dreadful start on the first control trying to find our way along the myriad of trails we quickly regrouped and nailed most of the controls. I was only lost on the map once - which I think is a record for my orienteering career. My new secret weapon (which I always plan on doing but never do) was using pace counting on a regular basis and it really helped us find the itsy bitsy trails covered in leaves. I could however use a strategy lesson from Bash. I was basically aiming for every control, regardless of value, until we ran out of time so we ended up leaving some juicy controls out there. One 70 pointer was so close we could taste it but alas we had to book it to the finish.
Mr Mo was a great partner out there and a natural map reader. Next time I'm going to force him carry his compass. He also saved me out there with his brute strength when a large log rolled onto my leg pinning me. I was trying extremely hard not to sound like the lady from You Tube who hurt herself crushing grapes but I did let out a couple 'owww ohhh it hurts' under my breath. The bruising and swelling has really started to come out today so I think skirts are out again for this week.
End results for the day was an amazing 3rd place finish for us behind the Kempsters (damn those kids are fast) and Archipela so we were extremely happy. The bobkittens also squeaked by us by 20 something points - ohhh so close. My little bro did really well too especially since it was his first Rogaine and his partner had never orienteered before. Great course and super fun to see everyone out there. |

| La Femme and I had a humbling run on the bike paths. We noticed a really old man with flowing locks of grey hair run/walking ahead of us in hiking boots and binoculars slung over his shoulder. After a while I commented on how we were not gaining any ground on the old man so we picked up the pace. Even with our added efforts we only managed to pass him when he stopped to look at a bird. We spent the rest of the run looking over our shoulder to see if he was coming up behind us. |

| Orienteering practice with my bro and his newbie Rogaine partner. We went super slow to get her used to navigating. Hopefully I didn't give them too many tips - I still want to kick their ass. |
