Note

We played tourists today. Visited a palace where Ghandi was held by the British for a couple years in the 40's, and then went shopping. Wish I would have my Garmin today because I didn't really know where we were most of the time.

The streets are crammed with vehicles, but few bikes. They say at one time this was a biking city, but times have changed as wealth has increased. But now many roads are reaching capacity with cars, motercycles and scooters, so there seems to at least be talk about trying to get more people to ride bikes. This time of year it would be OK, but it gets hot and humid for many months which makes bike commuting less attractive. Hopefully I can come back here again to see how things change.

Run from hotel in Pune with JDG. North path BBQ Nation, back south along horse ranch, across the river and back.

The air was especially smoke filled today. People burn garbage at night and in the morning, so the morning air is often thick. Luckily it clears out quickly.

Exploratory run with JDG from hotel in Pune, India.
We are in the middle of a very large city, so we were shocked to run into a large horse ranch on our run. Maybe it is for racing horses?

Looking forward to more exploration the next couple day.s

Swimming 20:00 [1]

Easy swim in the hotel pool. Just enough to say I did something. The water was cool, but it had a nice view of some of the city of Pune. It was 7am and I saw locals out running for fitness, so I will try the same tomorrow. They were on a road that I didn't realize had room for running -- sort of.

Long flight to India over the weekend, so no exercise. Now that I'm here, there is no place to run -- too much traffic! Hoping to try the hotel pool tomorrow, although it is unheated so not sure it will work out.

Snow was mushy. Classic track was good, albeit slow. Skating conditions were very slow.

Three loops around the trails at the U of M golf course. Great day to do it. Perfect temps, now overcast sky, but still bright out.

My "long" ski for the season. I might get in a short ski later this week, and then I'll be out of town for 10 days. Who knows what conditions will be like after that.

Good night on German Wheel and Hoops. The coach taught me a couple new things on German Wheel. It's freaky going upside, hanging by your knees, inside a giant steel wheel! A friend took some videos tonight , so I may be able to share those soon.

I wore my garmin when I went to sleep last night to record my heart rate. Now I have too much information and not really sure what some of it means. Average HR was around 51, but it dipped down to the mid 40s a few times in the second half of the night.

There were some jumps in HR throughout the night. Probably when I rolled over, or maybe took a deep breath in my sleep?

Snowshoe race at Long Lake Park in New Brighton, MN.

The course was not well marked and a number of people ended up doing less than, or more than , the 10k. I did more (.45 miles -- which means the course was short) because once I knew I was off course, I went back and did the correct course. While the increased distance was not a big deal, by the time I got back to the correct trail I ended up behind all the people walking the 5k. Since the course is single track, and the snow deep, I had to pass 50+ people through deep snow and that took a toll on my pace the rest of the way. I did this course last year and it was well marked. I think the deep snow meant they had less people on the course at key intersections and that messed people up.

Otherwise a great race, great weather. Lots of people too.

Ran with a couple of novice runners at work. They went out hard and then faded. But they kicked it in at the end, so redeemed themselves. If I can get them to slow down a little on the way out they might really be able to fly.
