Paddling race 1:12:26 [4]

Tri-loppet canoe w/kmc. We were 2:26 slower last year. Not sure what to attribute that too. None of this race felt great to me, but nothing was particularly amiss either. The transition out of the canoe took quite a while because the scouts took our canoe away and we had to go find it after finishing with our water bottles and shoes. And we started further back than last year, and that may have hurt us. Or we were just slower??? 162nd of 171 in the men's doubles for the paddle section.

Running Trail race 31:03 [4]

Eight seconds faster than last year. I thought it might be a bit faster than that, but it did seem hot and difficult to run. 70th place of 168 in the men's doubles for the run (92 places better than the paddle).

Cycling Mt Bike race 42:28 [4]

Funky ride. Thought I was slow, but 3:31 faster than last year. But the course was different. I suspect shorter, and less mud than last year (at least for me). 111th of 165 in men's double (lost 41 places versus the run, what the ?). I got stuck behind alot of people walking their bikes. And my chain came off once (although that was my fault). Wonder if i could have kept the pace without the human obstacles?

Note

Tri-Loppet. 130th of 171 in the men's double. 2:25:55 overall. 1:13 faster than last year. Overall it seemed like a harder day. Although the canoe and run were essentially the same. And I think the bike course was actually easier because there was less mud. But I think it was hotter this year. Fun to do, but didn't feel as good as I was hoping.

Cycling Mt Bike 50:00 [4]

Fun OTNT ride at Lebanon Hills. Only one fell once in a slow motion slide along a tree. My left foot got caught in my pedal strap. Even when I was on the ground I could not get my foot out. Luckily JB came up behind me and pulled the bike off me.

It was an intense ride by my standards, so I skipped the run afterward. I was wiped out over the weekend and I don't need that again before the tri-loppet.

Running Road 1:05:00 [4] 7.5 mi (8:40 / mi)

To Summit and back with SAP group EW was there and was willing to run the uphills hard so I joined him. Hot, hard run.

Paddling 1:05:00 [3]

Isle, Cedar, Brownie and back with kmc. Our warm-up and training before the tri-loppet next week. We won't be breaking any speed records. Nice night. After being hot and muggy all day, the sun went behind the clouds just as we started paddling and stayed there. Water is down alot from last year at this time.

Orienteering 30:00 [2]

While camping at Gooseberry falls state park, I went bushwacking for a while. Grabbed a park map with contours and noticed what appeared to be an intermittent stream. Followed it for about a mile before it got too marshy. Thick vegetation in area that must been been forested 20 or 30 years ago.

Note

Need some training. Work is busy (meetings this morning at 7am with people in Japan and India, and then China at 6pm tonight -- but don't get me wrong as I like it, it's just busy -- a good thing). Home is busy. Son is sick. Freakin' front porch has built in gutters that are leaking through and rotting wood. Long weekend of camping coming, and nothing is packed or prepared. So training will have to wait.

Orienteering 1:39:00 [4]

Modified score-O at Lake Elmo park. It was great fun, but I got cold and tired toward the end. I almost always have gloves with me, but not today. I even wore gloves earlier in the day, but did not bring any to the park. There was a cold rain, and by the end I could barely move my fingers. I haven't been that cold for a long time (maybe skiing with pfc and ian at Irondale trails last winter, now that was cold).

As for the course, I ran back and forth with Ian for about the first half. He got a head of me a bit, and then we had a long leg (maybe 2km) and I never saw him again. But still saw other people out there. Actually I was surprised there were so many people out there today. Nice turn out for a cold, rainy day.

Orienteering 1:08:30 [4]

OTNT along rice creek north of county I -- courtesy Todd P. Nice course design for this area. Great fun. Not much in the way of hills, but still required lots of leg lifting to get through the tall grass and dry marsh areas. Luckily it was a dry spring, or much of the course would have been under water.
