DNF. Got in over my head on this. I didn't give any thought to how long or difficult this might be. Tough riding for me. Went out too fast to boot. I was in a hurry to get home too, and that compounded the problems. Hopefully I learned some lessons?

Still a beautiful day. Haven't been to Timberland Hills for around 20 years, but its a great area.

Had wanted to ride through Swede Hollow at night again since JSD and AS did it a few weeks ago. Saw a pair of eyes shining in the grass while riding through Swede Hollow. Thought maybe it was a cat or racoon... turned out to be a possum! It wouldn't hold still for a photo.

Excellent night for No Name. Perfect weather. Nice outdoor finish location at Elsie's patio.

Road with Andre from about mile 2 on. A little slow for him, but I enjoyed the company. Between the two of us we knew where each stop was ahead of time, and I don't think we navigated out of our way more than a couple minutes. Finished 17 (or 19) minutes behind the winner. that's about as good as it gets for me. I think that comes down to 12 mph versus 14 mph. Considering I'm riding a twenty year old mt bike and not really trained as a biker, that's pretty good compared to the younger guys on road bikes.

The first 3.25 miles were uphill to the highest point in MPLS! I was a little concerned about how that would effect the rest of my ride, but it was alright.

There were more people at the start, but I think a bunch of them just show up to ride to the finish and party. One guy got to the start, put his pack on the ground next to me and pulled out a beer (with an insulated can holder).

A "time on the feet" jog around the fairgrounds and points beyond. About 2/3 pavement and 1/3 grass/dirt.

Haven't been running enough for a couple months now. It's time to get back on that wagon. I'm signed up for the loppet 1/2 in three weeks. Not clear now if I'll make it to the start line. It will depend on if I think I can finish without hurting myself. I'm willing to walk/run, but not get beat up.
