Paddling 1:50:00 [2] 8.0 mi (13:45 / mi)

Canoe about 8 miles of Minnesota river with kmc. Put in near Jordan and out at Carver. We had planned to go farther, but there is a big log jam at the Carver train trestle. The river is low, so maybe it is passable in higher water. We could have portaged and put back in, but it may have been close to a mile, and we were running out of time anyway.

There is a small set of rapids, called the Carver Rapids, in this section. I was surprised by that. Even in the most open spot we could find we scraped the bottom of the canoe. Seems to be a bit of bed rock that intersects with the surface. It's odd, since everything else is silt and soil many feet deep, not a boulder to be seen.

Incredible weather. Very quite on the river. Just us and three small fishing boats. And we saw two back packers with their dog.

Cycling 3:49:00 [3] 40.8 mi (5:37 / mi)

Ride from home to In-laws.

Because of a couple detours, and a leaking tire, this ended up being longer than I was planning, although I guess I didn't realize how long it was going to be in the first place. Last half hour was tough. Longest bike ride ever for me (although I have run farther than this a few times).

From home to river road, then Minnehaha park to Fort Snelling. Then around the airport and Mall of America, and down Old Shakopee rd to Indian Mounds Elementary where Minnesota River Bottoms Mt. Bike trail starts.

River Bottoms to Nine Mile Creek. Ferry raft is out of the water -- to shallow for the raft, but too deep and mucky to walk across (at least for me). I didn't see an obvious way to cross, and there was no one else around, so I had to backtrack to Lyndale.

Lyndale to 106th. 106th west, but detour north at Nine mile creek again. North and west almost back to Old Shakopee rd (again), when I noticed a control location from Mike C's training session at Moir Park. So I went down to the creek and through the park to Penn.

Penn to 110th, then to Normandale, Auto Club rd and finally to Bloomington Ferry road. At the Bloomington Ferry Rd parking lot a guy was just coming off the Mt Bike trail from the East. He said he crossed Nine Mile Creek upstream from the ferry. Supposedly you can put your bike over your shoulder and shimmy across a log. Wish there would have been a sign for that.

Crossed over the river to 101 in Shakopee. At this point I noticed my back tire was very low. I "fixed" a leak a few days ago, and it must not have held. Filled tire and proceeded to the far end of Shakopee. 101 is very boring on a good day, and I was tired at this point.

My back tire started to leak faster, and it was very soft by the time I finsihed. Bushed at the end.

Running Road 12:00 [2]

Warm up before SAP 4 mile

Running Road 31:50 [4] 4.0 mi (7:58 / mi)

Annual neighborhood 4 mile road race. Hilly course by Minnesota standards, and warm as usual.

My last mile would have been my fastest but as I was approaching the finish, there was another guy finishing the 2 mile. He is 90+ years old and everyone was applauding for him, so there was no way I was going to pass him in the gate. We started at the same time, so he did the 2 mile in under 32 minutes. Pretty amazing for that age.

After the race there is a neighborhood parade. I was walking my son to his station in the parade and ran into a guy that friended me on facebook yesterday. We used to run ultras together, but I haven't seen him for many years. He is now on the St. Paul school board, and so was riding in a convertabile in the parade.

Coincidentally, the owner and driver of the convvertable was a guy that grew up in the 60's and 70's in the house I now own. He is also the guy that put on the race this morning. He said, "I saw you did the tri-loppet last week". He noticed because it is his company that does the timing for the tri-loppet, and NYC marathon, amongst others. He is the reason that our little neighborhood 4 mile race costs only 50 cents AND uses fancy new disposable timing chips.

Running Road 1:05:00 [3]

Run with J&J to conservatory and back. Then I ran one, untimed, half mile on the Murray track to see what it would feel like. Hard on the brain. I may have to do my half mile runs along the edge of the golf course. It's not as fllat, but who else is going to care besides me? I'll try the track again next week.

Figured out later that I ran a mile, not a half mile. No wonder it sucked so much. Now if I would have timed it I would have noticed it was way longer than a half mile, but I had already run 5+ miles and must have been delirious.
