Dance practice with my daughter

Circus 55:00 [1]

Trampoline and something new: mini-hammock.

This video, through about the first 40 seconds, shows what we learned on mini-hammock. Best not to watch the girl in the center of the video as she messes up the "butterfly" move toward the end of the 40 seconds.

Warm up and nice double map run at Tierney courtesy of Andre. Nice courses, and new area for me across the highway.

Incredible evening to be outside.

Note

Went to the Trek bike demo at Murphy this morning. It was supposed to start at 10am, so I arrived at 10:05 hoping to beat the rain. They were still setting up, and only one person got to ride around the parking lot before a storm hit. By the time it started to let up around 11:20 I needed to head home. So while I didn't get to ride I did learn a couple things. And riding wouldn't have been super interesting given that we were confined to the parking lot and gravel roads.

Note that it was raining so hard that I got stuck a couple times in the parking lot. There was enough water mixed with the gravel and weeds to make a sort of soup. That, and my marginal car tires, left me with no traction.

2000' challenge at Afton organized by Ian. Great workout on a beautiful evening. Kudos to the fast guys for completing the bike and then finishing by running a few hills too!

My GPS track says I climbed 697 meters = 2 287 feet. In said 288 * 7 = 2016 feet. In the 2000' ball park either way.

I had to be in Eau Claire today at noon to pick up some furniture. Earlier in the week I looked from some interesting trail in that area for biking or running and happened upon a listing for the Uff-Da run in Woodville, Wi. It's a 1/2 marathon on a crush limestone railroad bed trail. That's half way to Eau Claire, and I've never been to Woodville (who has?), so I thought I'd try it.

There were actually less runners than I was expecting -- although the weather may have had more to do with that than the location. The weather was cool and drizzly, but was fine for running. I was concerned about the chance of a hard, cold rain, but that never materialized.

The course was out and back on the firmly packed limestone -- a nice surface for me. I was not trying to race this, especially since I hurt my left calf yesterday. But I was hoping for sub 2 hours and a negative split. I got the sub 2, but not the negative split -- still need to work on my pacing, and training, so I can get it in the future. Needless to say, I slowed down a little in the second half. My speed dropped, and my heart rate dropped. So for whatever reason, I wasn't running as hard -- although I felt like I was working.

The trail is almost completely shaded. Lots of green on both sides of the road. Lots of wildflowers. And Woodville has a very nice little downtown. Nice black race t-shirt too. I'd go back again.

Note

About 4am this morning, as I rolled over in bed, my left calf muscle cramped in a bad way. This happened to me one other time in the last year. It took about a week to recover. I was planning to run a 1/2 marathon tomorrow morning in Woodville, WI so I called an acquaintance that is also a chiropractor. She worked on it for a while this afternoon, and it feels better, but still painful. Still thinking about running tomorrow, but will wait until morning to decide for certain.

What was supposed to be a bike tour of St. Paul turned into a biathlon. I dropped the family at Circus in Highland Park and then planned an easy ride around St. Paul before heading back home. Followed the river past downtown almost to highway 61. Pedaled up and over Mounds Park, down into Vento Nature Conservancy and on through to Swede Hollow. Then went as far as arcade before turning toward home. Was riding along Como when I got a flat. I had no spare tube or other gear with me, so I locked the bike by John's Pizza at Dale & Come and jogged the rest of the way home.

Running Road 43:54 [2] 5.72 km (7:40 / km) +72m 7:13 / km

Warm up, then 60 minute Leg-O courtesy of Mike C, followed by control retreival.. Excellent night to be out, but oh the brush was thick! I felt like a pin cushion by the time we were done. I had a total of 10 "legs". I did an 11th leg that didn't count, so bad planning on my part.
