ahr:154 max:179

Run from home with SAP group, around the lake with Alain, Mike and Chris. They helped keep my heart rate up on the way back. I had to leave them for the last mile so I could cool down.

Cycling Road 2:20:34 intensity: (1:50 @1) + (22:44 @2) + (1:56:00 @3) 29.5 mi (4:46 / mi) +85m 4:43 / mi
ahr:132 max:144

Bike from home to Chaska for River City Days. My legs felt a bit wobbly from the morning's run, but they held together in the end.

Between Hopkins and southwest Eden Prairie, it's difficult to know where you are. None of the bridges over the trail are marked, so I didn't even notice when I went under 494. There do seem to be a couple more maps along the trail than the last time I did this.

It's not the most interesting ride, but it is nice that we have this option to get across town by bike.

10 miles on the roads. I had thought about trying to get in 13, but ended up running the last 5 miles with a couple other guys and we went faster than I was planning so I was satisfied with 10. By far the most comfortable 10 miles I've had on pavement in a long time.

Afton 25k.

This race is usually held at Afton State Park, but all the state parks are closed because of the MN state shut down, so the race was moved to Afton Alps ski area on a completely different course.

The course today was two times round a 7.5 mile loop. It made for a short course, but I doubt anyone complained because it was unexpectedly tough. There did not seem to be hardly any flat, accept for the bits along the bottom of the slopes. Everything else seemed to be up or down, so I was either walking up a steep hill or picking my way down a steep hill, and rarely seemed to be "running". It wasn't bad, just different than what I was expecting from the normal course where the ups and downs have a definite start and end, which just didn't seem to be the case today.

I saw a few people bail after the first loop, saw a woman go down after something snapped in her leg, and I saw an ambulance entering the parking lot as I left. I suspect many people did not drink enough.

We saw the first place in the 50k finish his first loop and he seemed to be flying -- no one else was close.

There were 500 runners and at least 100 volunteers, and I did not see one other person there that I knew. I used to go to races and see 100 people I knew, but many of my old trail running buddies have moved on to other things -- or died in some cases 8-(.

That said, it was an amazingly well run event. I would do it again, even on this course.
