Circus 55:00 [1]

Silks, low casting and German wheel.

Low casting is a "low" version of swinging trapeze. I hit my right leg on the rear platform and it still hurts. Imagine getting hit behind the knee with the narrow end of 2x4 --- that's what it is like. doesn't seem to be a serious injury, but of course the surface tissues are very sore. Will try to run tomorrow.

5 PM

Cycling Road 59:25 intensity: (8:33 @0) + (2:43 @1) + (12:27 @2) + (28:08 @3) + (6:07 @4) + (1:27 @5) 12.86 mi (4:37 / mi) +125m 4:29 / mi
ahr:143 max:251

Bike to circus. Planned to get there early enough to run in the river bottoms too, but the river flooded the trail and road between Hidden Falls and Montreal Ave so I had to backtrack. I tried to bike down a flooded road, but I didn't have to go far before my pedals were under water.

Cycling Road 37:08 intensity: (42 @0) + (1:20 @1) + (13:27 @2) + (21:37 @3) + (2 @4) 7.4 mi (5:01 / mi) +67m 4:53 / mi

Running Road 20 [2] 1.25 mi (16 / mi)

Warm up before creek "bombing" (without the bombing).

Other 1:00 [0] 0.7 mi (1:26 / mi)

Mellow creek bombing on Minnehaha Creek. The major excitement was hitting our butts on rocks in the low water. But still a good outing. Thanks Tod for getting us out, and Brain for leading the way.

Paddling 55:42 intensity: (1:01 @0) + (48:20 @1) + (6:21 @2) 3.46 mi (16:05 / mi)

First time paddling in a couple years. Went with cmann -- he will paddle the tri-loppet with me. We floundered for quite a while, but got better the further we went.

Hillside Park Elk River. First time on these surprisingly nice trails. Reminded me of the Wirth trails a little, but bigger ups and downs. Three or four times longer than Wirth. Nice forested park, which would be great for O', but again, like Wirth, packed with buckthorn.

I left the office at 4pm expecting a 25 minute drive, but it was closer to double that. Even that early there was stop & go traffic in Anoka area - ugh. No traffic driving home.

I made it through 3 of the 4 sections of the park, but started having serious allergy problems. Very infrequently pollen allergies will make my eyes burn and water to extreme such that I can't keep my eyes open, and this started happening in the third section. I had to stop a few times and just close my eyes for a minute until I could start moving again. I took a sudefed knock off before I went, but not long enough before to have any effect.

Looking forward to going back again, but will try to leave at 3:30 next time.

Running Trail race 1:44:26 intensity: (9 @0) + (9 @1) + (10 @2) + (1:04 @3) + (20:12 @4) + (1:22:42 @5) 9.91 mi (10:32 / mi) +97m 10:14 / mi

10 Mile Trail run at Treasured Haven Farm. Beautiful course was maybe two thirds flat, mowed grass along the edge of farm fields, and the rest was great single track trails up & down hilly ravines. The forests would make for spectacular orienteering. Reminded me Nerstrand with smaller trees (mostly maple I think). Even though it rained the last 24 hours there was no mud to speak of. There were four real knee deep stream crossings.

Weather was cool, misty and windy. Nearly perfect for this kind of run. I took first in my age group and got a nice plaque. It didn't hurt that I was the oldest one there, but I did have a good run.

Neighborhood grass run. Had to cut it shorter than I was expecting. Last night I got a cramp in my abs while doing acrobatics with the kids -- it didn't loosen up for close to 30 seconds. It didn't bother at first while running. But on many of my runs close to home I stop at a park and practice trapeze mounts at the playground. Even that didn't bother my abs -- until I started running again, when that one spot started to hurt again, so I walked back the last few blocks and called it a day.

Long run on a warm day. Didn't plan to go so far, and didn't bring water, so struggled the last couple miles.

Ran my own OTNT course before anyone else. I had time to plan a course. I don't think you could navigate a much shorter one than this. I think pfc said his run was about 12.5, but by the time he was done he realized some shorter choices he could have made.

47 control picks @ tierney courtesy of toddp. Very fun -- especially considering the relatively small investment Todd had to make to create an excellent training exercise. Impressive!

I was sloppy on many of the controls on the west side -- should have slowed down and followed my compass more closely. East side was easier due to more variation in terrain, hills, ponds, etc. And I only made it to 37 of the 47 controls....

No Name with CB and Chaz. Beautiful night. Fun course, but I think everyone followed the same course, so only minor navigation choices along the way. It was longer than I was expecting and my legs were tired on the way home.

Big crowd and lots of familiar faces.

Next month's course reportedly will be mostly in St. Paul...

Cycling Road 41:12 intensity: (33 @1) + (18:15 @2) + (21:31 @3) + (53 @4) 7.75 mi (5:19 / mi) +63m 5:11 / mi

Bike home from No Name.

Got tangled up in construction detours along University Ave. Wasn't in the mood for that at the time.

Another easy bike ride. Killing time while my son was in a circus performance. I carried my bike up from ft snelling state park through some tall grass and stairs and few wood ticks latched on to me. I guess they are everywhere now.
