Orienteering race 2:51:30 [4]

1/2 Minnegoat set by Owen B at Pillsbury State Forest. Wet, but beautiful day. I got very messed up in the middle of the course. I left one control, but thought I was leaving the next control. It took me close to 30 minutes to figure out what I had done wrong, and probably another 15 to truly recover. That 45 minute leg should have taken no more than 5. The next leg stunk too, but all others were fine.

6 hours later I'm still mad that it took me so long to figure out my big mistake and recover, but had a great time all the same.

Orienteering (night) 1:13:00 [3]

Memory O' at night training exercise Battle Creek Park. Courtesy of Pete C.

I learned alot on my first four controls. I got close to all four, but only found two. They were easy controls and would have been simple in daylight. But the real problem was that I did not memorize the locations well enough. Small problem with the map too, as one of the controls was a trail intersection, and one of the trails looked "small" on the map, but was actually 15 feet wide on the ground. Even though I'd been on that trail well over a hundred times, that still through me off.

Lots of fun and I learned alot.
