City Trail Loppet - year 3 I think. Given the temperature at the start I had low expectations. While it was warm, there was a strong breeze from the south most of the time and that helped me hold it together. I felt good the entire race. I slowed down some toward the end, but given my usual half-assed training regime, that is not unexpected.

Started out with my friend Maureen. I think she was well trained, and started out fast for me. But then she eased up about mile 4 and I got ahead of her. She was worried about the heat, but I suspect she could have gone faster with ease.

Saw the battling Bullards at start and finish (you can ask them who won). Saw Dave Swanson at the finish but could not walk over to say hi.

Checking time for prior years I'm surprised to see I was a minute slower than last year. My memory says I felt better this year. Go figure.

Note

For a few years now I have had what I believe is patellar tendonitis. The symptoms are weakness and pain below the knee cap when I run longer distances, say more than five miles. The farther I go, the more it hurts. It prevents me from running fast on downhills, which is bad (especially when your not particularly fast on the uphills).

I haven't done anything about it because it goes away quickly. It doesn't bother me when I walk, and it usually doesn't effect future runs after a day or two. But now I want to do the Grand Traverse this fall in Duluth. At least the 20, and 27 sounds like "fun". But I have to get past the tendonitis to train properly and complete 20+ miles on the Duluth hills.

Starting to look at necessary strengthening exercises now:
