Event: BPMR

ar 8:17:18 [3]

Fun race, very well organized and plenty o' familiar faces. Great Time!!

And the RD (The Van Dorps) even gave me a place to sleep at their house when I couldn't find local accommodations!!!!

Hated the first half of the paddle. Almost dumped twice and felt unstable most of the time (unnatural and awkward... like a dog f#@%'ng a football). Once I made the turn things were much better and I actually passed a few boats. Overall didn't spent too much energy on the paddle so that was good.

TA was terrible... couldn't wear socks with the five finger shoes I needed for the boat... should have tried on the new compression socks before the race to stretch them out a bit. Nearly sent my back into spasm struggling to get them on!! ;-)

Logie and one of the twins blew by me pretty early on the ride. I settled in after that and had a decent ride until about the 2/3 mark when I had a pretty good endo... thought I may have broken a bone in my hand but was able to grip the right bar pretty good with my first two fingers.

The bigger problem came a few minutes later when a branch wound up in my derailer. Lost my top few gears after that, but that had little impact on the rest of the first ride.

Overall I enjoyed the ride and the route, not a lot of technical riding, but a few spots to keep it interesting.

Bit better transition to the run.

Warrior Janel passed me when I stopped near the start to take some IBU. The knees were feeling good so I picked up the pace a bit. When I caught Janel I thought I might be running a bit fast and wanted to make sure I had something left for the final run, so I more or less followed her the rest of the run to manage the pace. Hermes passed us about 2 km (?) from the end and I never saw her again. I quite liked the run route. Had I been in any running shape it would have been great and I did enjoy the views!

This TA was my best I think.

After a little 'yarding' on my derailer in an attempt to straighten it out I set out just behind Janel. I didn't like the sound or look of it, but I had my top gears back!! Despite having my big gears back, Gally blew by me on the road about 1 km into the ride. The derailer got louder as I went and I couldn't use my lowest gear or the chain fell off against my spokes :-) Constant fear of my derailer getting ripped off in my wheel took some of the joy from this ride.
Turns out the bent derailer caused my chain to be running off the cog and cutting thru the steel :-( That was the source of the noise .. and somehow I broke a spoke too - Likely on my endo!!

Took a couple minutes to fuel up and take some more NSAIDS at the TA in preparation for what I expected would be a suckfest of a run. I was right. I would have really enjoyed that leg with even some moderate training miles in my legs. The knees held up quite well and despite walking FAR too much of it I managed to finish with a good gap between me the my 3:00 pm target.

Should be an easy time for me to beat when I go back next year... fitter, faster and (hopefully) about 15-20 lbs lighter!! :-)

Bike's in the shop for repairs and the hand appears to be a bone bruise or maybe a slight tear. No real swelling, but looks like blood draining down into the wrist area.

hope the beer consumption didn't negate ALL the training today
