Orienteering race 1:21:48 [4] *** 9.1 km (8:59 / km) +340m 7:34 / km
spiked:16/18c shoes: O shoes

Oceania championships M35A. Came into this race quite unfit and with only yesterday's run in the sprint since the aus championships. Not sure if pulling on the aussie o-top fired me up but I was fairly determined not to make any major stuff ups. Legs felt quite sore from yesterday - I think it was all the steps I'd gone up and down so never really felt like I was doing as fast a pace as I'd like. Took it steady off the start and got a fairly good feel for the map. Lots of fallen timber on the ground so the going was pretty slow in the white. Made a bit of an error at 3, misreading some rough open as open and thinking I was further down the hill than I thought I was. The rest of the course went pretty well, felt like I had good map contact most of the time, a bit wobbly into 8 looking for a shallow gully in masses of fallen timber. Unfortunately finished off with a schoolboy error at the last control, the leg was along a ridge, I dropped off the side a bit to avoid the green on top and followed a stream of runners into the wrong control, lost a minute there I think, which was about the time I was behind Scott Simson. We were both whipped by Jock Davis who did it in 66. Overall was happy with the run, and a big improvement over the aus champs.
