Triathlon race 1:05:00 [5] 26.5 km (2:27 / km)

First triathlon of the season, sri chinmoy sprint. 500/21/5. Still cold enough to be a wetsuit swim. Did it in about 10 mins which is about right for me. Was swimming a bit more in the pack than usual some dude swam in front of me and got a bit narked when I swam over him. Good transition to the bike, took 36 for the leg at an average speed of 36km/h. Main problem was avoiding the massive amount of debris on the road. First half of the run was a a bit sluggish but poicked up a bit in the last half and picked off a few runners, saw the gorilla about a k out but couldn't quite get there and was about 10m behind at the finish. Was a pretty strong field so will be interesting to see how I placed
placed 4th, 9secs behind the gorilla
actual splits swim 8.56, bike 36.40, run 19.29 - so good swim and bike, run a bit disappointing

Swimming 20:00 [3]
shoes: wetsuit

OK so 20 mins doesn't make the hoggster threshold, but I'm trogging this anyway. Practise lake swim for triathlon tomorrow. The viking had claimed that the lake was inducing "ice cream head" but turns out it is quite a reasonable temperature, although once out towards the middle where the flow is is was bit chillier. Turned round at that point after thinking about all the dog crap that would have been washing down sullivans creek in yesterday's rain.

Swimming 1:30:00 [4] 3.0 km (30:00 / km)
shoes: speedos

Bilbys swim squad. Really long warm up set had already killed off quite a few of the slow laners, then there was a main set with lots of sprints and surges for 1.5 k which had people dropping off the back like flies with less than half the lane left by the end. Now 2nd from the front, so must be getting a bit more speed up. In a reverse acejase I left my goggles at the pool, they were pretty leaky though.

Running intervals 30:00 [4] 6.0 km (5:00 / km)
shoes: Brooks Adrenaline GTS7

Bilby's intervals. Arrived mace style (15 mins late) so missed some of the warm up - but had ridden there so was warm enough. Quite a hot sticky night - no doubt the first of many over the summer. A VW set tonight, 9x~650 with 100m recovery; splits 2.24, 2.21, 2.26, 2.31, 2.31, 2.31, 2.34, 2.37, 2.35.

Swimming 1:30:00 [3] 2.5 km (36:00 / km)
shoes: flippers

Back to swim squad. Not a really hard session - there was about 25 mins in the middle of "race practice" i.e. drafting on someone's toes, swimming over the top of people etc. There was quite a bit of waiting around so ended up getting a lot of leg cramps. Still in slow lane.
