Cycling 1:00:00 [3] 30.0 km (2:00 / km)

Cruise round the bike course for tomorrow, it's pretty flat so not ideal for me, did the lap of 20k in 35 min most at an easy pace with two or three minutes on the aero bars. Still a bit of soreness in the hip when I started to run up the hill from home so decided to stretch a bit rather than run.

Note

Trip to the runners shop to get new shoes, after trying quite few pairs Jules sold me some gel kayanos and some brooks racers (these are bright yellow, so just the thing for triathlons!)

Cycling 40:00 [2] 15.0 km (2:40 / km)

Ride home via the lake to take a look at the swimmers going round the swim course that'll be used on sunday. Water temperature is a touch under 24 so looks like it'll be wetsuits on sunday and 5 minutes off my swim time. Ride was very cruisey, just turning the legs over. ITB/hip still improving so will go for a quick run in the morning, then polish the bike.

Swimming long 30:00 [3] 1.3 km (23:05 / km)

With the lake reopened did the Thursday swim, first time without the wetsuit on as it's likely to be non-wetsuit on sunday. Little bit choppy towards the museum but had a pretty good line there and back for a change. Trisuit did come out of the water with some greeny brown spots on it but haven't been throwing up so assume they weren't remnant toxic algae. Didn't run to give the hip a rest, but is much improved following physio yesterday

Swimming 1:10:00 [4] 2.8 km (25:00 / km)

Swimming, bit of a taper session, moved myself to the medium lane after dodging the obstacles in the slow lane for a few minutes. Pace was not too bad, although with 4ft0 at the front there was no slacking off. Lots of useless start practice at the end - I think the 1450m of steady pace are the main problem on sunday, not a 50m burst for glory...

Note

Physio visit for the sore hip. Diagnosis was ITB, and some muscle in the back affecting a tendon on the hip. Massage on back, glutes, ITB and ultrasound on the offending tendon. Physio didn't give me night off swimming, feels better after swim than it did before physio visit.

Note

LBG has been reopened so sunday's triathlon is the full shebang - at least all the swimming training will have been worth it.

Running intervals 16:00 [5] 3.2 km (5:00 / km)
shoes: Brooks Adrenaline

Big gaz described this as a "hurty" session to prepare for this weekend's triathlon. It was 8x400m going every 2min. Was doing the 400s in 1.20, going out to about 1.22 by the last one. Quite hard work, and at the end felt quite sore in the left hip, which I think is itb. Decided not to do wednesday morning ride and to try and stretch it a bit instead.

Swimming 1:30:00 [4] 3.8 km (23:41 / km)

Another big turnout, no doubt due to the impending canberra triathlon on Sunday. Mark got an extra lane and demoted the very slow swimmers into it, then put half a dozen medium laners into the slow lane. The result of this was that the long rests those of us at the front of the slow lane used to get were gone and we swam an extra 500m compared to usual. Started to cramp at the very end of the set but otherwise wasn't too bad. Got to draft off stuey and jen up northbourne on the way back home rather than the usual effort into the headwind.
