kayaking 2:30:00 [3] 13.0 km (11:32 / km)

kayak trip across auckland harbour to rangitoto island. I was in a kayak with a very ocker aussie girl who was keen for speed but not to paddle. The journey over there was good as it was pretty flat but by the time we returned there was a bit of a headwind which made things a bit more lively.

Running race (Mt Ainslie run-up) 12:43 [5] 2.2 km (5:47 / km) +240m 3:44 / km
shoes: Brooks racer st2

Once again, a Tuesday with no lunchtime meeting so got to have a go at the Mt Ainslie run up. It was quite a warm day with a big field. My initial tactic was to sit behind constable frogga in a reasonable sized group. As we headed into the nature park vanessa went past, so I thought I'd better go with her; matt parton was with us too. I led up the really steep bit, but the temperature and my lack of hill training caught up with me and once we go on the concrete path vanessa and then matt went past. I could see that the constable wasn't too far back at the last switchback turn so kept on going to the top. The time is a pb, although the other time I've done this run was in 2004. Well done to miss jones who did a pb too.

Mainly running back down the hill

Running intervals (Bilbys) 38:00 [5] 9.4 km (4:03 / km)

Quite a warm evening at bilbys backing up from mt ainslie this lunchtime. There was a big crowd there and just big gaz coaching. Did the x-long set of 7x800(200) 4x400(200). Splits were 3.02 out to 3.05 on the 800s and 1.31 for each 400. Was happy with this as was under 4 min/k.

Running long (Cockies long run) 2:00:00 [3] 21.0 km (5:43 / km)
shoes: Mizuno wave nirvana 5

Was prepared for this being a solo effort and was aiming at 2.5 hours so started at 7 by running up ainslie on the concrete path. Saw quite a few bilbys on the way round the bottom of ainslie doing the 10k loop. Ran quite hard down the tricky track as I thought I wouldn't make it to the carpark by 8, but in the end had plenty of time. Grant, Mary and Liz turned up, Mary did her own thing and the rest of us headed over to the pines and did a lot of single track. Grant and Liz took the direct route up majura while I went round the reverse triple tri route, passed gramps going down the hill and then the other two as they emerged from the bush near the top. From there was quite happy to head back to the cars for a 2 hour run as was feeling sore and a bit tired.
Deli Marco was closed so we went to Praga next door. This cafe was blacklisted some time ago, possibly on the basis of a toast buttering incident or slow appearance of coffee - I can't remember the exact details. Anyhow, the coffee appeared quickly and was good, the food was a touch slow but when it arrived was very good and a bit different, I had a good potato rosti and the mushrooms and porridge also met with approval.
