Cycling 2:30:00 [3] 70.0 km (2:09 / km)

Bilbys saturday ride - only 5 of us there so we set off as a group to washing machine hill. Two of us were riding a bit faster so split off and went out to lake george (still not much water there) then back along the federal highway. There were quite a few riders out there taking advantage of the quiet roads and lack of bogans

Cycling 2:25:00 [3]

I continued the cross training theme of the week by getting out for a morning ride round cotter-urriara. It was a bit cloudy at first riding towards the lake, but that soon burnt away. Caught Paul from the bilbys at the start of lady denman drive and rode with him down to the cotter. I dropped him at the start of mt grant and mary and overtook a few other punters on the climb. Didn't feel quite as good going up the three sisters and was tiring a bit on the way back along uriarra road.

Note

Well that wraps up this year's trogging so time for a quick review of the year. Training hours just got over the 400h mark which was about double the amount for 2009 and included well over 200h of running/orienteering which is also about double the volume for 2009.
Orienteering seems to have gone backwards from some good runs in the summer series early in the year followed by not too bad runs at the victorian NOLs then an ordinary easter (can blame injury for slow running but not the mistakes).
The plus side were some good running with PBs for half marathon and 10k. There were some cracker long runs including robw's 'real killer'. My peak form was in May-July with the Googong half the best performance - although it's not a big race I enjoy running it and was pleased to be able to push hard the whole way and get a big PB. The big races were the 6FT, Jungfrau marathon and Kepler track - any one of those could be the highlight of the year, I had a good run in the 6FT and it was great having so many canberrans there, the jungfrau was the first big marathon I've run, the location is awesome and was well worth travelling to - but the kepler has to be the highlight, a great course, really well organised and had me wanting to go back for more.
There are two big goals already for next year, 6FT again and then TNF100. I think I'll be following grantm's lead and doing quite a bit of cross training in between long runs and long hill reps.
Happy New Year to all on AP!

Swimming 42:00 [3] 1.9 km (22:06 / km)

Back at the lake again for another swim with the bilbys, no need for a wetsuit. We did 2 laps of the big loop, I probably did a bit extra due to not swimming in a straight line.

Swimming long 30:00 [3] 1.5 km (20:00 / km)
shoes: wetsuit

A morning swim in the lake with some keen bilbies. I took the wetsuit which made for a much easier swim. We went on the new swimming course next to the acton ferry terminal which was OK apart from having to pick your way across a lot of rocks to get to the start. The water was like oxtail soup but there wasn't any of the usual floaty stuff in there.

Cycling 40:00 [2]

Running intervals 15:00 [4] 4.0 km (3:45 / km)
shoes: nike lunareclipse

Went down to dicko ovals to do 'bilbys' intervals. Aaron was there but doing a tempo run so I stuck to my plan of 4x 1km. A bit lacklustre; 3.40, 3.48, 3.45, 3.47 requiring a lot more effort than the splits suggest. Stuey and louise turned up about halfway through to do efforts around the edge of the ovals.

It didn't take me as long to do this as usual, includes between intervals

Running 38:30 [3]
shoes: Kayano 16 -red

Short slow run on the ridge, nice breeze kept things cool and no mtbs on the single track

Running long 1:45:00 [3]
shoes: nike lunareclipse

A long run from my place with grantm, sanders, acejase, mark, sebba, robw and mary mac doing her own run. Rob and jase had already run from cook. We went over o'connor/bruce ridge and into blackie where we ran into sophie and her friend ryan who joined us on the run up to the summit. I felt very tired on the climb and was thinking that sanders option of waiting at the bottom would have been better. The we went down to aranda bushlands and back through aranda via ds hill, dropping off sophie, ryan and jase. Then into gossan hill and fairly direct across bruce ridge. Rob had more running to do so went off into bruce ridge while the rest of us headed back for coffee and toast.
