Mountain bike 1:30:00 [3]

Still feeling tired this morning so gave the bilbys ride a miss and had brekky and read the papers. Followed up by chopping some wood as I'd got to the point where all the logs were too big to fit in the fire. Choice then was crossy or a ride, I decided that a 12k real cross country course was not the best comeback race, so got the mtb out and did a bit of a circuit of the north, hackett hill, campbell park, along the lake then up through csiro and a little single track section on the ridge to finish. Just turning the legs over although there were a couple of efforts on the hills and a chilly headwind by the lake. Only a few brave people out there in the cold today.

Note
(rest day)

Felt really tired today, even after an hour long teabreak this afternoon, so gave swimming a miss this evening - slack.

Running intervals 31:30 [4] 7.5 km (4:12 / km)
shoes: kayano 17

Maybe 20 people at bilbys, which is a lot for a thursday and it was a bit warmer than it has been recently. The set was 15x400(100), not my favourite as you have to run the 400s fairly hard. Started off with dave and humpty, after a few reps dave was off in the distance, but for a change i got away from humpty a bit, although she'd just come back from the aus mountain running champs.
splits were: 1.26, 1.23, 1.23, 1.24, 1.25, 1.25, 1.25, 1.26, 1.26, 1.27, 1.27, 1.28, 1.27, 1.28, 1.27. A pretty solid set, and managed to keep the intensity going all the way to the end by which time there weren't many runners left on the track.

Running (WNT) 1:04:00 [3]
shoes: nike lunareclipse

WNT organized by grantm with jla and alj, joined by BigD halfway, marymac and sanders did a walk. This was a warmup round spence then some street-o intervals on actpla map. This was good fun, although I did get a bit confused by a reservoir. Was surprised at how many little alleyways there are out there - along with a lot of dogs on backyards.
Afterwards grantm lifted the supper bar from high jump to pole vault with 2 soups (minestrone and spicy caulifower) with bread followed by armenian coffee cake - all delicious - thanks grant!

6 weeks of these now, glutes are getting stronger but still a lot of hammy soreness which gets set off by driving or sitting down too long

Running intervals 31:00 [3] 7.2 km (4:18 / km)
shoes: kayano 17

Bilbys with grantm, phoebe, mace and a load of bilbys. The set was 'endurance', 3x 1600(200) then 4x400(100). The 1600s seemed pretty hard with the short recovery, splits were 6.01, 6.10, 6.15, 1.30, 1.31, 1.31, 1.30. Not as lively as last thursday, perhaps due to the increasingly nasty headwind on the back straight.

Orienteering warm up/down 10:00 [3]
shoes: brooks cascadia

Token warmup down the track

Orienteering race 1:12:30 [4] 10.0 km (7:15 / km)
shoes: brooks cascadia

ACT league at Ratall Creek. This was a back to basics event - mark your own map, although there was only one copy of each course so there was a bit of a queue for red 1. The map is showing it's age as shown by the extra instructions at the start which in summary was don't believe termite mounds, veg boundaries or green; this should also have included location of control circles. Took the track option to 1, but messed up a bit through the saddle and got there about the same time as grantm and graham. Straight to 2 then put the power down on the hill up to 3 where we'd dropped grantm but picked up plastic. Annoying time loss at 4 where I was right on line but the flag was low down behind a log, so I went down the gully a bit before turning round and seeing the others punching the control. Set off to 5 on compass without a plan, but got away with it hitting the edge of the wide gully then the control spot on. Still had graham and plastic with me, through 6 and 7. Then onto 8 which had the circle on a distinctive tree with description of boulder cluster. Once again the flag was on the ground (at the cluster) and I didn't see it going to the tree then turning round to see plastic heading off on the next leg. Over to 9 with graham still hanging on and then blasted down the hill to reel in plastic. 10 was meant to be in a shallow gully but turned out to be a faded flag on the ground on a rocky spur, so a bit more time lost here. Had lost graham and plastic by now but still had a bit of company eventually getting away on the way to 14 where I crossed the ridge early and ran to the second gully spiking the control. Pretty straightforward to the finish, although the track option to 17 would have been better. Fairly happy with the time, geoff was a few minutes faster so must have had a good one too.
