Cycling 2:30:00 [3] 75.0 km (2:00 / km)

As it seemed to be raining all night I didn't think this ride was likely to happen, but the rain stopped at 7am so I decided o go and see if there was anyone riding. There was just guy and a random (only random because I don't know his name) so we set off to do lake george as we didn't think that would be too bad in the wet. It was a fairly solid ride as there wasn't much chance to take a break from the front, but my legs were a bit tired. By the time we finished the sun was almost out, so we had a coffee at sfoglia and talked about new bikes.

Bilbys on a chilly and damp evening, with just a few of us, with nat returning after hawaii. Just did medium of 2x 1km, 4x600m. Fairly good effort but slowed towards the end.

Orienteering race 30:12 [4] 5.1 km (5:55 / km)
shoes: brooks cascadia

Summer series at Farrer Ridge. Legs still a bit tired so tried to go in straight lines to minimise distance; 5.6km on the garmin, so didn't completely succeed in that aim. Annoying miss at 5 when I didn't see the flag somehow and didn't pick the correct distinctive tree at 10 because there were a few of them.

Collecting the controls from the far end of the map. I took the first one a bit before 7.30, but if anyone was still out there they weren't getting back to the finish before course closing time - plus it was getting cold.

Running 29:00 [3] 6.25 km (4:38 / km)
shoes: nike lunareclipse

Went along to Bilbys for a bit of a run. Not many people there due to a general lack of hardcoreness. I did the medium set, but it wasn't really intervals, just a bit faster in the efforts. Good to turn the legs over.

Running race (Triple Tri) 1:25:46 [4] 18.29 km (4:41 / km) +542m 4:05 / km
shoes: Kayano 17

Triple tri with gary and guy from the bilbys. Guy had come out of the water at lake ginninderra in 3rd place, but there were some pretty good mountain bikers, so we'd dropped a few places by the end of the first mtb leg. Conditions were pretty ideal for running but I was also aware that there was a long way ahead, so tried not to overdo it too much off the start. I quickly reeled in baldilocks and some of the solo runners on the way up majura. I passed marymac and heffer having a bit of a walk on the way up majura and had enough energy to sledge them for not running. I went past a team of three runner on the road down majura, then put a big gap on him through the single track in the pines. From here I was running by myself, so just tried to keep a reasonable urgency. It was good to see a big cockies long run crowd going over hackett hill. The climb up ainslie didn't seem too bad, I'm sure the cool conditions helped with this, think I got up there after just over an hour. From here it's about 6km, so I thought I was on for a good time, so descended as fast as possible without hammering my legs. Almost caught Guy out at the transition as I was 5 mins faster than predicted. I think this is a pb for this leg by a couple of minutes.
12 PM

Running race (Triple Tri) 47:10 [4] 10.88 km (4:20 / km) +249m 3:53 / km
shoes: Kayano 17

I'd had a couple of banana sandwiches as soon as I was able to eat and a bottle of gatorade as well as a fair bit of water and a voltaren, and put on some compression tights. By now our team was on its own after guy had consolidated the gaps form the first run with a good swim in tough conditions and gary had held the place and time gap. Robw and davo's team was well ahead, and the other team of 3 in front with vanessa, and gun swimmer and rider was about 20 minutes up. The run started with Mt Taylor - I felt a bit tired but by the summit had got going again quite nicely. I'd not run this leg before so wasn't sure what to expect, the descent of Mt Taylor turned out to be really good, not too steep. The last 6 km or so is bike tracks through tuggo, so I wasn't really sure where I was, but eventually there was a 3km to tuggo sign on the bike track so I knew it wasn't too far. I'd guessed 50 minutes for the leg so was very happy with this effort.
3 PM

Running race (Triple Tri) 58:29 [5] 13.63 km (4:18 / km) +230m 3:57 / km
shoes: Kayano 17

In between the last run leg and this one, a few wheels had fallen off in the team (not literally). When I'd finished the run I'd noticed that gary wasn't wearing a wetsuit for the swim - it turned out that they'd locked the keys in the car by closing the tailgate onto the clicker. The NRMA was called - and after explaining we were in the middle of a triathlon they made it a priority job. The nrma guy wasn't very optimistic about opening it, but luckily hooked the lock first time - we were back in business and headed off to the end of the swim and had guy ready in time for the last ride. The swim was a bit slow so a team of 9 had made a bit of ground on us. At the last transition their rider was first out of the pipes, with guy another 10 minutes back. He'd got lost, then got a bit stuck in the pipe. By now there were big gaps to the two teams of 3 in front of us so it was just a case of getting us home. I hadn't done a warmup, so the first hill took care of that. Once up on the ridgeline I was running well and got off the off road section at about 25 mins. From here there was notionally 8km to go on the roads and bike tracks, so I knew I was in with a shot of going under an hour. I had to have a bit of an HTFU moment with 5km to go, but got over that, then dug deep up the little rise behind the GG's house. This leg is a bit longer than the 13km advertised, so I was beginning to think I wouldn't crack the hour, but kept pushing anyway. Got in under an hour which was another leg pb so was pleased with that and how well I'd held up over the day. The cool conditions definitely helped - it would have been a very different story if the race was yesterday. In the end we were third team of 3 in 10h05, although really daylight took the other places behind davo, robw and john fleming, who were at least an hour in front of us.
