(rest day)

Could have done a token 20 mins, but by the time I'd watched the women's race this morning and got back to the chalet it was warming up, so I just had a rest day. Winner of the women's race did 3h22, the aussies did well too, just over 4 hours for vanessa, angela and lou. It looked like it was hot work and tomorrow may be warmer so will be making sure I keep hydrated as much as possible.

Another easy run, kind of a half lap of the airfield. Got stopped by trains twice on the way which has to be a record on a 5km run. Sun out once again but not too hot. Afterwards went into Interlaken to collect race number and look at marathon expo - I could have bought some ice shoes or entered the lucerne marathon but confined myself to getting a race belt to carry gels - in case I decide not to go with the robw method (hold them in hands). Met swiss lo-carb again and Mel who's looking after the Australien team in the world champs

Just an easy jog from wilderswil, past the brewery and then up the heimwehfluh followed by a bit of road running round the edge of interlaken. Warm evening was great for running.

Easy-ish intervals on the flat for a change. I thought running along the runway at interlaken airfield would haven been good, but it had been commandeered by the police to do some driving practice so I just used the road along the edge. Good long warmup before 4x 3mins then a 10 min or so cool down at the end. Pace was around 3.45 min/km which is a touch faster than I want to go on the flat sections. It was a fairly warm morning so got quite hot by the end of the set. Just need to take it easy for the rest of the day and avoid getting shopping legs or a related ailment.

Almost a repeat of the wengen-kleine scheidegg run I did last week, except wengen was full of tourists so I skipped the few hundred metres around the town. I'd met a swiss spitting image of lo-carb on the train, who'd just run the tour de mont blanc and was backing up with the jungfrau. That seemed pretty hardcore. The highlight of the run was overtaking a couple of mountain bikers - admittedly they were quite old, I met then again at the top and turned out the bloke is running on the weekend. I did have a bit of a walk just before the moraine, the time was 10 min quicker than last week, which was a bit surprising as I wasn't pushing hard. The snow has all gone, but there is a lot of mud around the base of the wixi chairlift which could be interesting after a few thousand runners have been through it.

Tempo effort from wilderswill to laurterbrunnen where I was catching the train down, had 25 mins to spare so added an extra few km up the valley. Thought I was cutting it fine towards the end so it was pretty much a tempo effort the whole way. The lunar racers had a chip of gravel embedded in the sole, so am wondering if these are the best shoe choice for the weekend.
