Running long 3:49:42 [4] 42.73 km (5:23 / km) +964m 4:50 / km
shoes: La Sportiva Helios

Long run from home round gossan hill, aranda hill, little blackie, big blackie, the lake, mt pleasant, ainslie and hackett hill. This was probably the longest run before 6FT, was aiming for it to be a steady pace and take in a few hills on the way. Started with gossan, which was a bit scrappy as I went round the back and to a non-summit before the real one. Then over golden gate to DS hill, which had a lot of runners on it, then to the top of aranda hill before doing the little blackie, big blackie double. Had a gel at the top the came down breakfast hill, which was a bit sketchy then a bit of looping back to try and find emily on her mtb at the bottom. After another drink at the lady denman bubbler followed along the lake shore, with a gel at the ferry terminal, then past the triathlon trying not to get caught up in the run leg. To add some distance I went through Russell and up Mt pleasant then followed the old john harding 3 peaks course through campbell and onto ainslie. Approaching the concrete track I saw a couple of well equipped ultra running types crossing in front of me which turned out to be GM and marymac, so stopped for a quick chat before heading up the hill where I was looking forward to another drink and gel. I was on about 33km at the top of ainslie so figured that if I went over hackett hill I'd hit the objective of 40km. This turned out to be a bit of an underestimate and by now I was ticking off every little milestone, so I had another drink and gel stop at dickson ovals before the last 3km to home.
This would be close to 4hr 6ft pace (although I didn't do as much climb) so happy with this run. An easy week coming up this week I think.

Tharwa with the bilbys, we had greg, kate, matt, davo and marty in the bunch. It was a solid pace until near the end where people started dying on athlon drive. Two idiot motorists, one trying to pass the bunch on lady denman drive with a car coming the other way and pulled into the bunch and another doing a left turn in front of us.

Bilbys fast medium golf course. It was a smaller bunch than usual as we lost luke who blasted through the northbourne lights when the rest of us stopped. Pretty much everyone was working, but we got a lot of red lights so the medium solid bunch caught us and sat behind for a bit with gary complaining that he wasn't working hard enough. We dropped them pretty quickly after that an got up some good speed on the run back through kaleen. Long coffee stop afterwards waiting to see if the rain would arrive.

Bilbys, and the last time Gary was coaching, so a definite end of an era (17 years). I did the XL set of 3x 400, 6x 800, 3x 400, wasn't super fast but pace was consistent enough. Speeches and cakes afterwards.
