Strength & Conditioning (Body blast) 45:00 [3]
shoes: Altra Escalante

Feeling a bit low so decided getting away from work for a bit would be a good idea. Body blast is a tabata style class with Jacky as instructor. It was really good! My butt and quads should hurt tomorrow.

Running 21:00 [3] 3.1 km (6:46 / km)
shoes: Altra Escalante

From Harvard down to Magazine Beach to search for the start of the orienteering. Eventually found out it wasn't actually there but on a road nearby!

Orienteering 17:00 [3] 3.2 km (5:19 / km)
shoes: Altra Escalante

I was losing my sense of humour by the time I started. Supertired at the moment and that in combination with the long buggy run there and not knowing where the start was was just too much today. I ran ok but I wasn't really into it and probably should have just stayed home. never mind.
7 PM

Running 32:00 [3] 4.8 km (6:40 / km)
shoes: Altra Escalante

Magazine Beach to home. Absolutely died. Far too long without food.

Note

What a great area! Big thank you to Ian, Wendy, Valerie and everyone else who helped look after the boys so that I could run today. Solo parenting is hard work!!

Really enjoyed it, but boy was it hot. The car said 95F which is 35oC. It was probably more by the time I ran. Hot hot hot. I tried to get Ali to sleep before I went (starting 13:30) and did lots of laps of the building in the assembly area, but didn’t quite mange. Valerie came to the rescue and took Ali off to find the others. I made it to the start with 2 mins to spare not quite feeling ready for it!
Not sure I drank enough beforehand and definitely tired after the last few days and the hour and a half of being up in the night.

Started off steady and pleased with the routes and execution. Wiped out on the way to 5 and bent my thumb nail in half backwards which was a bit distracting. Got a bit stuck getting out of 6 but otherwise ok. Started to die on the way to 8 and a lot more walking then really died on the hill up to 10. Grateful of the water at 11 but it took until 13 to feel the effects so walked most of those. It’s a long while since I was so hot I couldn’t run. Mind over matter definitely won out here and I had to battle to keep concentrating enough to execute my plans and not make a silly mistake. Actually I walked the first bit of 14 too. Nothing left for the track run to the last or the run in.

Loved this course, despite the dieing in the middle. It was a really fun area and a good course to boot. I didn’t really miss anything and I think my routes were generally good. Just physically i’m out of shape, and the heat and climb really showed up my lack of fitness!

Looking forward to some cooler weather for the long :-)
