Orienteering 1:18:00 [5]

Orienteering at Glendale (Red 2, 7.5 km)

I really wanted to have a good race today because I have never finished a course out at Glendale so I gave it everything I had. Was exhausted by the end and just wanted to lay down and sleep for a whole day. Disappointed to be so far off the pace - seems that everyone else had a good run and zipped round in an hour. Despite trying my best, I struggled to read the map and lost time on most of the controls. On the plus side, I was glad that I could keep running until the second last control (where my legs cracked and I had to walk a bit) and also that I actually finished the course. It really wiped me out though, I was super-tired and a little bit fragile for the rest of the day. Glad I did it, great practice for Easter, and top course-setting by the Scowns, apart from that horrid one in the green near the river....
just checked my splits - turns out I did some legs better than I thought, with two splits the same as mace, and one split quicker.

Orienteering 24:24 [5]

Sprint at CIT in Bruce

A fairly average run from me - some good legs and some poor legs, especially missing the watercourse one by running past it and not seeing the watercourse properly. I think my main problem was not reading the map fast enough. Happy with the day, though, fun to catch up with lots of people after the race!

Rode to/from as well, warmed up with devil and did a fun warm down with mace, devil and grantm.

Note

I was course setter for tonight's summer series at yarralumla bays so spent a few enjoyable hours putting out controls round the suburbs and bike path alongside the lake. My aim for these courses was to give everyone a good "run for their money", and try to use both the streets and bush sections of the map without running people over the hill, in the crappy bush down opposite the yacht club, or too many times across the busy roads. I had hoped to put some trickier controls in between buildings but on field-checking, it quickly became apparent that the rowers would not appreciate us running round their boats and stuff, so I settled for some "easy" controls in those bits. Did anybody else discover that the pink dots on the map are actually posts? That was a new one for me. Overall I was happy that there were no disasters on the day..... with a big thank you to Dave Meyer who found a control that I dropped and put it in the right spot (which meant that the green course had two number 69 controls on one checkpoint... hope that wasn't a problem!)

A special big THANK YOU to Miss Jones, Devil and Tony Garr who are LEGENDS for waiting until course closure at 7:30pm to help collect controls. Fortunately we were all super-quick despite the darkness and got them in time to load onto the truck. Anna and Rohan and family are also AWESOME for doing the organisation - no way I could have done both coursesetting and organising, thanks to them for that.

Feeling tired this evening - suddenly crashed after dinner, and am currently eating lots of chocolate which is bad, but since 6FT I have been weirdly addicted to bananas and chocolate (though not at the same time).

Bilbys 30:00 [2]

Rode down to bilbys tonight for some easy jogging to get rid of leg stiffness. Fun to start riding again too. Warmed up with Jose and Beth - great to catch up with them and hear about Beth's travel plans, then did the stretching with Mace and Fel and run-throughs with Danny, who fortunately was just as slow as me, having cycled, oh only about 150 km on the weekend (!) Jogged round the short set (3.2 km) of 3 x 800m then 2 x 400m - definitely didn't push it. Had a quick chat with Lucy who had arrived late, then had to ride home very fast to meet Shannon and lug about 20 boxes full of easter2010 rego stuff from her car into my place. I have a total of 1000 "show bags" and assorted pamphlets in my living room.... all yet to be packed. The biggest job will be sorting 4000 safety pins into groups of four.....

Note
(rest day)

ouch! legs a bit sore to touch. Walking is OK, though, so I walked to the shops and back this afternoon feeling only marginally crippled.
