Run race 1:42:23 [3]

Googong Half Marathon - This is the third time I've done this race, and after a great run last year, I wasn't quite sure how I would go this year. Quite a good turnout on such a cold morning, especially a good crowd of cockies, and as usual it was good fun but a really hard race. I made sure I warmed up properly, which meant I felt comfortable in shorts and t-shirt at the start. Miss Jones, robw and devil were off like lightning and I also started strongly and kept pace with acejase and grantm for the first little loop. Got stronger on the hilly bits, and overtook a few people, then just tried to stay strong until halfway. Made sure I ran hard on the downhills, too. At halfway I was at about 53:30, so stopped for a drink, then pushed hard up the hill until the dam was in view, and cruised a bit of the downhill there. Tried to hang tough on the way home, but died a bit on the last two hills. It would have been nice to have a surge at the end but I was running at my limits on the flat. Overall, it was a good race, and I managed to do a 37 second PB over last year. Hooray for me. Some top runs by the other cockies too, I think most people did PBs! Good work.

Swimming 1:00:00 [3]

Have decided to do more cross-training as I've not been feeling as fast lately - maybe legs need a rest from running? Was inspired by GrantM and Marymac's CISAC reports so checked it all out this morning. Had a great time in the lap lanes, even wore my watch in the pool for the first time ever, which was fun and I timed a few laps. Swam continuously for the hour, mostly freestyle with a bit of breast stroke, enjoyed going there so will consider making this a regular thing. It wasn't as cold as I thought, which was a bonus! Looks like I can do 100m in just over 3 mins (about 3'03) when I swim at an easy-ish pace. My arms got tired after 50 mins, so will be interesting to see if I can improve speed and distance at all.

Run 1:00:00 [3]

Lunchtime run on blackie - good fun but tired today so didn't feel like pushing it. Hammy a bit sore too, so will rest it from running tomorrow. Dave Baldwin and his friend gave me a big wave - they looked like they were on an epic run. Good day for it, sunny and cool but not freezing at lunchtime. Wore bad shoes since kayanos are soaked from last night!
Looking forward to Googong on the weekend but my time might not be as as quick as I hope. Will have to wait and see.

Easy run 25:00 [3]

Run to/from work for a pre-dawn experiment, just jogged there and back as I was still half asleep.

Run 52:00 [3]

Wed lamp run from GrantM's. Great fun but POURING rain - haven't run in such wetness for ages. Feet got soaked. Light died halfway round - thanks devil, cath and al for lighting the way for me down Mt Rogers! Masterchef's (aka GrantM's) soup was the best yet I think - thanks to the McDonalds for hosting it!

Bilbys 1:00:00 [3]

Weather was a bit yuck today but forced myself to go to bilbys tonight. Did some big laps (I did nine) after a warmup with fast kate. Legs didn't want to run fast today and right hammy has flared up. Got round the set though, and warmed down with sue. Got home very late as I have lots of work to do right now, and couldn't decide whether to have baked beans or porridge for dinner. In the end I had both (sequentially not together) and microwaved brussel sprouts. The only advantage is that it was a quick dinner and warmed me up.
splits = 5 mins sprint home from work in the rain, then 3'05, 3'14, 3'22, 3'19, 3'05, 3'09, 3'00, 3'08, 3'06.
