Long run 1:31:00 [3]

Cockies long run with PK and GrantM round Ainslie, through Campbell Park, up Ainslie, down Ainslie, then along the single track. A fun morning, and good to catch up with P and G. I especially enjoyed getting lots of gym tips from GrantM and swimming tips from Patrick. The pace was good too (i.e. not too fast for me). A long run just wouldn't be a long run without coffee after, so GrantM and I went to Wilburs. It's a nice place, really good breakfast menu too. Legs were OK but right hammy very sore towards the end.

Run race 2:02:52 [5] 25.0 km (4:55 / km)

25 km bush capital race organised by John Harding.
OK, so maybe I shouldn't have raced so hard yesterday - this race was tough! I didn't do it last year due to illness, and was looking forward to a good race this year, hopeful of a good time. I started out fairly solidly, and happy to keep the second-placed girl in sight in the first few kms, as well as running a lot of it with Sarah Buckerfield (we discussed the upcoming Majainslie hill there). I got into second place on Hackett Hill/Majainslie, then died a bit on the section at bottom of Mt Majura before the highway turnaround and fell into third. Sarah got a burst of speed up the hill after the turnaround, and we ran together for a bit (she even had the energy to chat with me... I could barely answer I was puffing so much), then she pulled away on the last 5 km and I lost sight of the girls ahead. Managed to run strongly to the end, but I was totally at my limits. A great race, one of the most fun (well since Googong), and I finished just ahead of my nemesis Cathy Crompton, with whom I had a great battle in the same race two years ago. Congrats all round to Sarah and Cathy. Top runs by Devil, Scotty and Lucy, and heaps of bilbys, especially Jess who dragged us to the war memorial cafe for lunch, good call. Thanks to John, too!

Run race 25:52 [5] 5.6 km (4:37 / km)

Black Mountain Cup - a 5.6 km race starting from CSIRO going up and around little black mountain then down again. I hadn't planned on running this year but fortunately a group of corporate girls were keen, so I joined in the fun and ran for their team this year. As usual it was hard maintaining a fast pace the whole way. Devil and Vanessa were out of sight early on, then Katie zipped past me, as well as Ben and Andre and a few others. I really enjoyed the race, it has such a great atmosphere. Glad to see Devil and the fast boys take out the trophy for the plant group again, and congrats to Devil winning outright to nab the winner's title from Stuey Doyle for once (and Devil won about a cellar-full of wine, well done!). Unfortunately I had to leave early since the presentations were going on forever, but I heard a rumour that our girls team took out the girls trophy. Yay for us!

Run 45:00 [3]

Thursday bilbys - started the long set but got distracted by devil and aaron towards the end so stopped it early. Bilbys is definitely not the same as it used to be - I used to really enjoy catching up with the cockies (mace, fel, phoebe and devil), but now the girls don't go, and devil is usually busy coaching and running with either natalie, jess or fast kate, so lately I've just been doing the warm ups etc on my own. I was going to quit thursday bilbys a while ago and decided to persevere to support the new coach... but it's getting a bit hard-core on the track on thursdays so I might try a few different things instead of bilbys and see how that goes. Devil is doing a great job as coach especially with the "awesome" comments, good work.

Swimming 35:00 [3]

Zoomed up to CISAC after work for an easy 1 km swim. It wasn't as crowded as I expected, and I was inspired by swimming in the lane beside the bilbys swim squad... maybe next week I'll join in for a bit. I think I can manage to swim at least 1 km with them. Good to do some cross training after a few days of running.
