Orienteering race (Middle) 36:03 [5]***** 3 km (12:01 / km) +200m 9:01 / km
shoes: VJ Twisters
Awesome Castle hill map, smashed the first control....but fell apart on the third by getting trapped going the wrong way to the control. Did something dumb at five and then again at 8 which was very tricky. Got smashed by Neil in the finish split by 3 seconds. Greg beat me again too by 4 seconds...

7th place?

Saturday Apr 26

Orienteering race (Long Distance) 1:30:53 [5]**** 11.49 km (7:55 / km) +370m 6:49 / km
spiked:23/26c shoes: VJ Twisters
Thought I did ok, but then when looked closer lost a lot of time on one silly mistake, on one silly control that caught quite a few people out. Matt beat me by 1 second!

6th place?
Note
Had a chat to Chris for a bit. Was really helpful, gave me quite a few ideas on how I can become a better orienteer. Much more specific pointers than most stuff I have been taught in the past which was good.

Chris pointed out that you cant really run too fast...cant ever run fast enough really. Which is what I have always thought...was that I ran too fast for my navigation. So need to increase navigation speed, and technique more than anything.

Decided I was making to many small hesitation mistakes probably due to a lack of confidence and concentration. So need to iron out small problems and hopefully then the big problems will sort themselves out.

Friday Apr 25

Event: South Island Champs

Orienteering race (Sprint) 16:21 [5]***** 2.4 km (6:49 / km)
spiked:13/17c shoes: VJ Twisters
Wicked course thru the sand dunes...which at 1:5000 you could actually read! really enjoyed it even though I lost quite a bit of time doing stupid stuff on 2 and 8 and fucking up 17.
6th place
Orienteering race (Night) 1:07:33 [5]**** 8.9 km (7:35 / km)
spiked:23/29c weight:54.2kg shoes: VJ Twisters
Gained some weight! yay!

Night course was cool....nailed the first 3 controls and felt real comfortable. Fucked up big time following Chris into the sand dunes, got a bit of time back in the end of first loop. Was strong through the first part of the second loop, then fell apart quickly at the end losing a good 6, and then 2 minutes doing silly stuff. Almost got caught by the pack but managed to hold Scott off by about 25 seconds for third place.

3rd place and 1-2-3 for Southerly Storm! showed that all the recent night navigation in the rogaines and training has paid off for night nav

Thursday Apr 24

Trek 6:20:00 [3]18 km (21:07 / km) +100m 20:32 / km
From St Jacobs hut out to SH7....dragging most of the gear and still having to wait for 10min every half hour for flatmate to catch up.....
C • Wet stream 1

Wednesday Apr 23

Trek 8:00:00 [3]11 km (43:38 / km) +700m 33:06 / km
Up to Lake Man to Hope Valley via Pussy Stream....got to love that route description.....the spur down into Pussy Stream was a right..........to follow too!

Flatmate really suffered..think he underestimated his fitness just a little bit! Also he didnt have much faith in my night navigation! when it became dark before arriving at the hut
Run 50:00 [4]2.5 km (20:00 / km) +240m 13:31 / km
Up to try and find lake Man, didnt go up high enough, was running out of time due to slow flatmate

Tuesday Apr 22

Trek 4:00:00 [2]11.84 km (20:16 / km) +200m 18:41 / km
Tramping up the Doubtless Valley with my flatmate.
