Orienteering race race (Urban Series) 21:02 [4] 3.5 km (6:01 / km)
shoes: Montrails

Urban Series #2-Rietvlei
Map at start area was confusing, so slow to # 1 (5 sec). Didnt read that there was a thin green line next to #4 so took right side after #3 and had to backtrack (8 sec). Changed my plan after leaving # 5 (10 sec)(must plan ahead better). probably should have also pushed harder given that I was doing the wider loop. leaving #8 I got disorientated as to correct path I wanted, so took a long loop and in too much thick grass. Then at the end got drawn by the mens control (40 sec). For #10 didn't have good plan and ended up on the high road-although attackpoint was then at least good (15 sec). bad exit angle leaving #10 so had to stop to relocate once I was on the road to #11 (5 sec). Disorientated with paths again after 11 and then overshot control at the end (30 sec). in a rush now to make up time and tired of long grass so took long route to #13 (10 sec). So nearly a minute of small mistakes and then two big ones of just over a minute. Could have been closer to 19 with more focussed planning on all controls and being more careful with exit angles and direction of travel

3 exercises again 1) map ledged type game (did Hillarys) 2) learn how to relocate in cone grid in partners 3) 3 loops of 4 controls. in pairs hand over to your partner en route. For advanced used control squares. Everyone did two loops and for the second they raced another pair
