Ran the DM course with louise and penny. Sharing who leads each leg ... well actually we did let Penny lead the orienteering

Amazing forest!! Loved it

Missed big at no1, due to bad map (explained in warm down training notes) dispite standing still at the start kite to try understand the map and features to use. I saw the lad that started 4min after me leaving the control as I saw it (he was only person I recognized as could be a good orienteer). Caught him back up at no2 then we took different routes and I pushed hard and didn't see him again. I was orienteering well and saw a large bird of prey near no4 and a deer at no10 so I realised I must be in front.
Focused well, did the orienteering basics and worked hard. Luckily, from no2 I managed to run 4min30sec faster than him to the finish.

Took Penny out to check map around no1... definitely odd.

Green and think terrain near the narrow /line marsh. So during the race pushed to the right of the line

Hard to see on the race map what was going on to the right of the line. Contours didn't pop out and was cluttered

Entering the control circle = Barb wire fence + big distinct vegetation boundary SW of control / edge of circle. Green north of veg change.
+ contours just strange.

I understand this was done by "none professional" map maker. So I feel the course planner shouldn't have put the control there... yes it was tricky, but in an unfair way
