running 10:00 [1]

A bit of warm up jogging.

orienteering race 58:02 intensity: (14 @1) + (5:17 @2) + (10:07 @3) + (42:24 @4) 6.5 km (8:56 / km)

Eric S set the course for a local event at Rockcrusher.

There were a few inches of snow on the ground, making the footing a bit slippery but also fun. We were a bit concerned about the roads yesterday, but the snow stopped yesterday afternoon and the roads were basically fine. I was a bit surprised they'd plowed the road to the start - a dead end gravel road with only 1 or 2 houses along it.

Control 5 was not in the right spot. I spiked the little well in the center of the circle but realized that wasn't where the flag was because (a) I didn't see a flag and (b) I didn't see any footprints anywhere near it. I wasn't really sure where to look and kind of stood around a while before deciding to head up the reentrant. I did that and spotted the flag. From my track it looks like I spent over a minute just standing and not being sure what to do.

When I was heading to control 7, I spotted a bald eagle circling just above the tree tops...and Paul C. leaving the control. It would have made a nice photo.

Leaving 10 I slipped in the snow going down a hill and fell backwards. My back is a little sore.

My feet got cold after running.

Dean was about 5-6 minutes ahead of me.
