orienteering 40:00 ***
8c
I ran a course at Rockcrusher. I had my watch set to beep occasionally. When the watch beeped, I'd drop my map, then pick it up, orient it, and get going to the control. The idea was to practice what I should do after falling. I suppose it'd have been better practice to also fall down on the ground. But, that seemed a bit more than I'd want to do - especially with the ground being wet and muddy.
The map is 20+ years old. The vegetation is out of date. The trails are out of date. But the contours are ok.

Bike orienteering using the downtown sprint map. This turned out to be a lot more fun than expected. I took it easy. There was a lot to worry about - cars, bikes, pedestrians, potholes, puddles, and so on.
I did the bike session to give my legs a little rest from running. I felt a few mild aches and pains and decided that a bit of O' training on the bike would be ok.

I shuffled around a sprint course on the Arboretum map.
Today was the first time in the 31 day challenge when I really felt like just sitting at home instead of getting out the door. But, I couldn't sit at home, so I got out the door. Once I started moving, I felt fine and was glad I hadn't sat at home.
The course was fine, but I spent a lot of time running in a mix of ankle deep water/snow/slush. Warm enough that my feet didn't get cold, just wet.

The usual work commute. In the a.m. there was dense fog. Apparently the fog had been around for the entire weekend.
This snapshot gives you an idea:

I took the picture mid-afternoon yesterday.

My legs were heavy compared to yesterday, but my mind was a bit sharper.
I ran with sport reading glasses. They fell off twice. On the way to the first control I got a vine caught on my neck and fell backwards, the glasses went flying...and ended up in the bottom of a gully I was planning to skirt around. I changed my micro route and went through the gully, picking up my glasses on the way. Near the end, the glasses were on the top of my head after some fogging issues....I ducked under a tree and they flew off. I took a quick look, but didn't see them. Bummer. Oh well, they were cheap and I've got a backup pair.
The terrain at HLCSP was some of the more fun - in my opinion - of the Georgia areas I've run in. You couldn't see as far in the terrain as some of their maps, and that makes the orienteering more interesting. Not too steep either.
