PTOC sprint at Antioch Park. Wonderful weather with temps in the upper 60s. Felt slow but ok. A couple of less than optimal routes on 3 and 5. On 3 I just hesitated and then took the wrong route. On 5 I saw the straighter route but the rough yellow with scattered trees looked a little rough, so I decided to go around it, then thought the fence was forbidden to cross and went to the gap in the fence.

Route + GPS + Go Pro video will come soon....and done...click on the little video camera next to the little globe for the route + GPS track + video.

Hmmm..the O map doesn't seem to be loading on the video page...or maybe I just need to make sure I've installed the Google Earth browser plug in.

orienteering 25:00 [2]

Short bit of orienteering on the way back to Denver. My legs felt a bit tired. Fun.

At Remarkable Flats for a longish course. Once again, I kept a steady pace on flat, downhill or very gentle uphills and walked any other uphill. I boomed two legs. Both of the booms were related to leaving the control a bit off.

I can't decide if I should starting running with a compass again. It would reduce the sort of mistake I made. But it might add to the total mistakes becuase I'd start looking at the compass when I should be looking at the map.

Note

In the afternoon, Swampfox, Mary and I went up to the Libby Flats area in the Snowy Range. It was pretty nice up there (even if the air was a bit thin).

running 46 [2] 0.09 mi (9:00 / mi)

I shuffled a lap around the parking area, tracking my effort on the GPS. This is the highest altitude training I've done since I've been using AP. 3292 meters.

I've done at least one run/walk/hike session a bit higher, but it was before I started logging on AP.

This morning's training was at a place called Rattlesnake Hill.

I managed the physical part better than yesterday. That means a lot of walking on the hills, but it also means I held a steady effort and didn't get to feeling a desperate lack of oxygen.

Better concentration and map reading than yesterday.

One part of the course gave you lots of opportunities to see exactly where you wanted to go in the distance. That was kind of fun, but it also made it kind of a slog in a few places.

We went to a place called Pelican Bay and ran some more. Fun but starting to get uncomfortable in the warm sun. The map was 1:10,000 and the printing was easier to read than the a.m. session.

Here's some video from one section of the course:

Note

I went for a walk with Annie on "the prairie."
