cycling 45:00 [1]

Work commute.

I spent a few hours at work sitting in on municipal court. That's an interesting experience.

Jogging around on West Campus. Cloudy and not terribly hot, but plenty humid.

When I was done, I watched some of the WOC TV coverage. The male announcer sounds like Groundskeeper Willie.

Work commute. I think today was KU's first day of classes. The town feels crowded (which isn't really true, but compared to the summer if feels crowded). I notice more divers looking at their phones. That scares me.

I watched the IOF TV coverage of the sprint relay. I'd read a bunch of stuff about how terrible the announcers were. They weren't as bad as I expected (low expectations helped). I think it is really hard to do a good job with commentary. For me, it is hard enough just to do a TV interview that will be edited. To do something live must be really tough. Overall, I thought the coverage was decent. The running camera on the leg that went through the little bit of real terrain was very steady. They must have had something to steady the camera, but I don't know what.

running 1:00:00 [2]

An hour at an easy pace on the trails at Clinton (from the beach). I felt a bit of yesterday's orienteering in my legs. Nice day - temp in the low 80s.

I watched a good bit of Olympics today. I began with the marathon and then watched the MTB. For both I was watching the NBC app and got the better commentary. The MTB commentary includes a guy who does the Cape Epic commentary and that seems like a good thing.

I also saw a little bit of the online coverage of yesterday's sprint WOC. Some good running-camera stuff, but overall not so great. It'd have been better if the SVT coverage wasn't blocked.

Also, good karma from finding and returning the lost drone a few weeks ago. The drone owners came by with a batch of homemade tiramisu (sp?). Very good.

Ft Leavenworth Adventure score orienteering. Fun, but one control wasn't where the circle was. I wandered around looking for it and then left, then decided to go back and look again, this time I found it (well off the circle). It was in the old prison, so that was kind of fun.

I mixed the effort - some fairly easy, some medium, and a bit at an honest effort.

The map is what an orienteer would call and adventure race map and what an adventure racer would call an orienteering map. It is rough, but usable. It is a good bit better than the old USGS they used to use.

After running, I did a little bit of field checking on this month's tiny orienteering map.

I traveled with Gene and we stopped for a coffee on the way home.

Also, I earned my Ft Leavenworth Adventure sport bag!

Work commute. More students are back in town. It would have been a good day to drive.

Watched some 50 k walking after seeing some of it live at breakfast. Strange finish.

We've been enjoying the streaming coverage on the Fire Stick. The live stream with no annoying commentary is great. Watching the women's 5000 meters with no announcer made the race more interesting.

running 1:00:00 [2]

Shuffled around on the trails at Clinton. I felt ok. I moved slowly (but somewhat reminiscent of Usain Bolt). I saw Gary Henry out there.

The temp was warm - lower 90s at the start. But the temp was moving in the right direction. That made things a lot more pleasant.

Work commute.

I mowed when I got home. I had zero yellow jacket stings. That's a victory!

Note

I've got a potential tiny orienteering map project for August. If things go well, it'll be ready by the end of the weekend.
