running 1:05:00 [2]

I ran at the Overlook. Blair and Fritz are course-setting and I needed to take a look and remind myself of what needs to be done on the map. Not really a lot. But, it also reminded me of how junky the terrain can be.

Temp was mid/upper 70s and sunny. It felt too warm.

Work commute. Hot for the trip home with temp of 80F. That was not nice.

cycling 45:00 [1]

Work commute. Some dense fog in the morning. I didn't wear gloves and my hands got a little cold (temp ~45F?).

Slow and easy jogging on the trails at Clinton SP. I carried a map and looked at it occasionally. I'm definitely getting in the habit of glancing at my compass. That's taken some practice, but it seems to be coming back to me.

I turned on my headlamp after about 25 minutes. That was nice. I like running at night.

cycling 45:00 [1]

Work commute.

Most of the trip home was accompanied by a local bike-activist (I've already forgotten his name). It was interesting to chat with him and mostly optimistic to think about the state of biking as transportation in Lawrence.

cycling 45:00 [1]

Work commute.

I didn't realize how warm it was going to get. It felt hot biking home (maybe 78-80F?).

I spent most of the afternoon over at Municipal Court. It was interesting. I hadn't planned it, but it was also a rare day when the newspaper was covering the court:

running 30:00 [2]

Jogging around on West Campus. It felt muggy. I'm tired of warm weather.

MTB cycling 55:00 [1]

MTB on the river trails after work. I spent some of the time working on cornering a bit better. I'm not a very good bike handler and am a bit of a non-brave wimp (or maybe I'm prudent?), but it seemed like I was cornering better than usual. I tried to go into turns a little bit faster than usual. I almost crashed 5 times (2x on soft sand on the Sugar Loop and 3 times on dirt when the real tire slid a bit). But, I didn't crash and that seems like a good thing.

Very pleasant day out and the trails were quiet.

I wrote about Tiflord's injury a week or so ago. His blog is kind of interesting (and it is pretty amazing that he's back to posting). Today he wrote, "I guess the deal is that my skull is cracked pretty good." http://stevetilford.com/

running 1:30:00 [2]

Easy jogging on the trails on the south shore of Clinton. First time for the season on the south trails. The trails weren't too overgrown, but wearing long pants to protect my legs from vegetation was the right choice.

I started at the trail head a bit south west of the radio tower at Rockcrusher. The further west I went, the better the trails got.

I took a break near the end to help a couple of horse riders search for a lost fitbit. No luck, but I ended up chatting with one of them about the orienteering maps. I gave them a copy of both the Rockcrusher and Rockhaven maps.

My legs didn't feel good for the first hour or so, then things started to feel better and I actually felt less tired than I did in the beginning.

I carried the 2 O' map and a KP map based on the newest lidar. I'm especially interested in how that new data handles the vegetation. It seems pretty good. My current plan is to create a single map of the entire area from the dam to just west of Rockhaven. In the past, I did that as two different maps. Largely the new map will be based on data from those existing maps + some stuff I can get from the newer lidar (like vegetation).
