Long-ish sprint course on West Campus. Mary designed the course.

I just don't have the ability to push hard right now, so I started at a bit under an honest effort. I felt pretty good for 15 minutes, then I started feeling tired and overheated. It was warm and humid. I'm not sure of the temperature, but the sun felt warm and the temp was going up. It didn't help that from the 15 minute mark to the finish was mostly uphll. I shuffled on, taking a couple of walking breaks and drinking some water that I'd brought along.

The course was fun - some legs we haven't seen before and a construction area that made a little part of the map feel different. The Lied Center parking lot was full of cars. I'm not exactly sure what was going on at the center, but I saw a bunch of little ballerinas walking around the lot.

Fun.

Mary designed a very short course where the map was whited out except for right at the controls. She enlarged the map to 1:1,500. It was fun. I'm so familiar with the area that it took a lot of concentration to actually use the map instead of just saying, "oh yeah, I know that spot" and then just running on memory of the area.

Fun.

Work commute. That seemed like enough for today.

running 40:00 [2]

I shuffled around West Campus. It was hotter and more humid than I like, but I felt ok.

I saw MeanGene downtown today. That was fun.

I talked with an auditor colleague who was attacked while out exercising. That was not fun. He was pushed down and punched in the face. He lost a tooth. Not fun at all.

Work commute.

Instead of some exercise after work I spent some time making some small changes to the West Campus map for Mary's event this weekend.

cycling 45:00 [1]

Work commute. I encountered some rain on the trip home.

Cristina-bot was busy today. I had 14 identical emails:

The race is tight! You and Cristina have trained the same number of minutes over the past week!

Those stopped when the clock hit midnight in Norway.

running 20:00 [2]

This was an interesting jog on West Campus.

As I was getting ready to run, hail began falling. So I hung out a bit to let it stop. When I left the house, the streets were wet and the sun was hidden behind clouds. No rain fell. Within a couple of minutes, it began to rain again. after about 10 minutes, the rain stopped and the sun came out. Another couple of minutes and, with the sun still shining, it began to hail again. This time I hung out under a covered walkway on West Campus while the hail (and some very heavy rain) passed. The hail was only pea-sized, but it seemed reasonable to wait it out. In the last 5-6 minutes of the run, the rain stopped and the sun came out again.

cycling 30:00 [1]

Easy bike ride on the bike path with Mary. We went to/from the movie theater where we saw a movie.

MTB cycling 1:30:00 [1]

MTB on the river trail. There were a lot of cars in the parking lot, but I didn't see many people on the trail.

I saw some colorful birds - a summer tanager and an indigo bunting.

running 50:00 [2]

Jogging, mostly on West Campus, but also a bit on the main campus. I took a mid-jog break and spent about 55 minutes doing some sprint map field checking.
