Note

I decided to postpone the New Year's Day orienteering at Rockhaven. The NWS issued a wind chill warning. The forecast is for cold temps (low around -8F and a high around 7 F). The wind would make those temps feel a good bit colder.

I kind of hate postponing an event. I think I'd manage those conditions without any trouble, but I don't think it is a good idea to put other people out there. Also, handling registration and results would be a chore (shelter with electricity, but no walls and exposed to some wind).

Shuffling around Woodridge. I checked on the permanent controls and replaced controls that were missing. I was surprised that the controls that are most visible from a trail were all in place, but some of those that were most off-the-beaten-path were gone. I last checked all of the controls almost 2 years ago, so some maintenance was overdue.

It was chilly (12F). In the beginning, I was a little cold when I was in the open area and heading into the wind, but after a few minutes, I was fine.

Got off work a little early and had enough time to get in a bit of a daylight trail run at Clinton before heading over to Mom and Ron's for dinner. S, A, A and V are heading home tomorrow.

Jogging on West Campus with my headlamp. It was cold and windy.

The jog was a warm up for the big pizza cook-off tonight. I'm up against Silas. That's not really fair as Silas is a professional chef, but I guess that's just the way things go. The judging will be by the niece and nephew.

Also, adding a note about Hank Schafermeyer's death. He was a big part of the history of US orienteering and a really nice guy. I heard about the news via Rick Armstrong:

running 1:05:00 intensity: (55:00 @2) + (10:00 @4)

Ran on the trails with the map at Clinton SP while Mary ran a course. I did 3x HU/ML/HE.

There is just a little bit of snow in the woods and on the trails - very nice.

Snow! So, I had some shoveling to do.

running 1:05:00 [2]

Parked at the south end of the dam and ran trails at Rockcrusher. I carried the map and looked at it a lot.

They've cleared some cedars from the old quarry just east of Rockcrusher Road. That was nice. It'll mean a quick update of the map.

Note

Vivian's birthday at our house.

Fun.

One of the highlights was that both Silas and Stephen had good things to say about the meal Mary prepared.
