Note

A long day. Planned to hit the little museum in PN but it turned out to be closed for the low season

Wandered around PN, followed by a small pack of dogs. PN is full of dogs, but they'd never before followed us around.

We had time (and our flight was delayed) so we visited Fuerte Belnes (sp?). Nice place with fantastic views of the surrounding mountains and straights.

We didn't get to our hotel until after midnight.

Easy hiking at Fuerte Bulnes. This includes going to the further south point that I'd ever been -53.633196, -70.914642

We took the boat on Lago Pehoe to/from Paine Grande and hiked part of the W-route heading east. Nice hike and not as much wind as I'd expected from the warning the ranger gave us at the trail head.

Note

A hiking day. The highlight might have been descending a narrow trail with a steep drop off, in a heavy wind with mixed sleet/snow/rain, and just below a couple of roosting Andean Condors.

Two short hikes. The first was to a Mirador Lago Grey. It was basically flat and easy, but there was some big wind and a bit of driving rain. The second hike was to Mirador Lagoona Toro. Part of the hike was steep. Part of the trail was a bit scary - a steep climb along a narrow trail with a steep drop off. We also had some wind and rain.

Did some sightseeing and hiking.

Hike to Mirador Cuernos. This was our first real taste of the Torres Del Paine winds. At one point it was difficult to walk without losing balance. The wind was whipping spray up off the surface of a lake. It turned out to be the toughest wind we encountered.

The view from the overlook was amazing and worth dealing with the wind.

Some hiking at and around Ceuva del Milodon.

Hiking at Cueva Del Milodon. We explored each of the caves. The caves were interesting and it was fun to spot a few Magellenic Woodpeckers.

orienteering 35:00 [2] ***

Orienteering on a sprint map that was a bit rough but usable. I think the map was made without any field checking.

We each drew a course, exchanged the maps to run, then got back the course we'd planned and ran our own course. That worked well.

Somewhat surprising- the loose dogs in the park (and in town, too) don't stress me.

I'm 99 % sure this is the southernmost orienteering map outside of Antarctica. We put controls at a fence corner on the southernmost bit of the map. Latitude of that point = 53.1821375 (from Google maps)
