Trail run on the trails west of Rockhaven. I wanted to explore a bit and get GPS tracks for the trails that aren't on the map. I now have all of the trails mapped on the south shore of Clinton from the dam to the point where the trails cross County Road 458 at the Rock Creek arm of the lake.
The run was slow. The warm weather has brought out horses and the trails are muddy and full of deep horse tracks. It makes for more work. I spotted about 20 riders in 3 groups.
On the drive to Rockhaven, I saw something odd. I've noticed some changes - probably related to climate - over the last few years. There's some spear grass at Clinton State Park. I see a squashed armadillo once or twice a year. Those are things I associate with Texas more than Kansas. Today I saw another odd site - a guy roller skiing on the shoulder of Road 458.
Oh, and almost forgot...I stepped on a thorn that went through the sole of my shoe and into my foot. It didn't go more than 1/4 inch into my foot and I was able to pull it out without any trouble. I scrubbed my foot when I got home and rubbed the little puncture with alcohol. All is well.
Also, there's a stretch of trail decorated by painted horse skulls posted on trees. It is kind of strange.
